On Thursday, the day after Biden promised electric vehicles would be made in America, GM moved its $1 billion electric vehicle plant to Mexico.

If I had a car factory, I wouldnt want to be forced to cater to all the union bullshit and selfish lazy American auto workers. I met a guy a few years ago who made like $37 an hour to drive a forklift at GM in Flint. Almost 80 grand a year to drive a forklift all day. More than 80 grand when you figure benefits and all that. Can pay the same guy in Mexico 20 grand.. and he wont go out on FMLA or workers comp every fucking other week.

That kind of shit is not sustainable. Pretty soon, it will make more sense to build cars in Guatemala and Honduras.

Then why did they wait for big government subsidies and tax breaks on foreign operations to make these moves if it was so much better a deal than staying? They were essentially paid to leave. And, they all went bankrupt anyway, and had to be bailed out by the taxpayers. Why is so hard for some right wingers to say 'crappy management'? They also used to blame the japanese for their failures, when the real problems were the crappy quality and the fact that it wasn't 'labor costs' that made the price differences, there was only on average about $200-$600 per car difference there, not enough to influence sales one way or the other on a big ticket item, but the difference spent on advertising at an average of $600-$800 per Jap car versus $2,800-$3,400 per car for the American cars, trying to overcome the quality gap.
