FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - The U.S. Attorney’s office said two Mexican nationals are facing charges after thousands of rounds of ammunition were found in their vehicle.

Fremont County deputies said they stopped a vehicle in Canon City on March 26.

Officials said deputies searched the vehicle and ended up finding around 150 boxes of .308 ammunition and another 30 boxes of 7.62 ammunition.

Fremont County authorities said each box was labeled as containing 1,000 rounds of ammo.

The men arrested were identified as 41-year-old Caesar Ramon Martinez Solis and 24-year-old Humberto Ivan Amador Gavira of Mexico.

Both have been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition by an alien admitted under a nonimmigrant visa, officials said.

Authorities said the case is part of Operation Take Back America.

Huh, I had no idea that was a crime.

I'll admit it, I'm impressed.....And here I thought I was hot shit yesterday scoring about 3K rounds of mixed ammo.

In before the illegal immigration bros come in screaming about due process and rights.

I don't know anything about guns and ammunition so I have to ask. About how much would 180,000 rounds cost?

They must have gotten one heck of a deal.

But there is nothing at all illegal about buying all the ammunition you want.
They had no grounds for stopping them at all, much less arresting them.
There is no legal restrictions on aliens here on a temporary permit.

The article is very uninformed.

The reality is that .308 caliber is 7.62 mm.
So there was only one caliber found.

And again, there is nothing illegal about them having this ammo.
The arrest was totally illegal.

What about intent? Was it obvious that all this ammunition was for resale? Was it headed for the border to be sold to the cartels? There are multiple reasons that law enforcement could confiscate this if this was part of a smuggling operation.

Do you think these guys are going to show a sales receipt?

I think it relates to noncitizens having the ammunition or something.
