What's the most amazing isn't the concept -- it's the machining and execution of this idea.. Clockmakers often had to automate external parts -- like the dancers or birds that came out of cuckoo clock. And there were already animated "music boxes" that were pretty elaborate for the times.

This inventor just was a no-nonsense person who wanted to make something practical.

Like a machine to forge signatures.. LOL....
