Draw the damn line in the sand. They are using the same excuses the West has been using the last few years, calling the protests "a threat to democracy" as if China is a democracy.

To all the CCP bootlickers on this site, go ahead and defend these egregious sentences.

I tried to look at the positives of China as their culture is ancient and unique. There is no way to ignore their government actions though. Since the communists have come to power so many decades ago the citizens of China remain unhappy.

Trump will be coming into office with a major mandate and all of the facts behind him to operate aggressively against Chinas abuses. This is just yet another reminder of how far they have gone. Morality is on the side of the U.S, just do NOT become like other nations. Instead, demand that they become like the U.S in terms of civil liberties. You don't need to invade nations to make them change, you need to publicly challenge them and shame them

HONG KONG (Reuters) -Hong Kong's High Court on Tuesday jailed 45 pro-democracy activists for up to 10 years following a landmark national security trial that has damaged the city's once feisty democracy movement and drawn criticism from the U.S. and other countries.

A total of 47 pro-democracy activists were arrested and charged in 2021 with conspiracy to commit subversion under a Beijing-imposed national security law which carried sentences of up to life in prison.

Benny Tai, a former legal scholar identified in the judgement as a "mastermind" of the activists' plans, was sentenced to 10 years in jail, the longest sentence so far under the 2020 national security law.

So much for the "two systems, one country" concept that was promised to the residents of Hong Kong.
