50/50

How many great offensive seasons did Bonds have without being juiced to the max? He went from a skinny kid to body builder size, he didn't even look like the same person.
he stupidly did it when he was in his mid 30's...while most great players fade at this time bonds had his greatest seasons......whats wrong with that picture?...

Yes, 3.1 PAs per scheduled game.

156 games so far = 483 PAs

21 hitters have over 650 already.

That's amost 40% more.

Rate stats have their limitations. Thus, WAR.
well most people will look at what was said and go wait a minute?.....the guy has 50 homers....bonds only did that once...and he will maybe have more RBI's than bonds ever had in a season .....he will be scoring more runs this season than bonds has in a season....he will have more hits this season than bonds ever had....how can that equal bonds 11th?....,,,,thats all most fans will see....

Which is why we have WAR. ;)

So, consider the possible demographic aspects of this.

What if Bonds were having such a day? There is no way he could have gone 6/6. They would have walked him, brushed him back, intentional/unintentional walks...whatever. Bonds could not have had such a game. But Ohtani...do they hesitate to take the more aggressive actions that they would for an "American" or Hispanic player under the same circumstances?

It is a good thing that he is NL and Judge is AL; it would be impossible to pick a clear MVP.

It depends on the game circumstances.

Ohtani with a man on second against a division rival in the playoff race, in a close game? He gets walked.

Otherwise, you pitch to him. Over the whole, walking him every time would be worse for the defense.

This is one insight that arose from the steroid era, as it yielded the stats to confirm this.

He failed 3 steroid tests and an amphetamine test.
And the league looked the other way. Like they did for everyone. Because $$

I'll never forget the disgraceful display of Bud Selig putting his hands in his pockets, as everyone else in the ballpark applauded Bonds's record breaking home run.

Bud Selig, who capitalized on Bonds's drug fueled success. Who takes credit for saving baseball. When it was saved by the PEDs he ignored.

F you Bud.

The thread is about Ohtani who now sits at 52 home runs and 52 stolen bases with 8 games left. Nobody cares about Bonds, he is a part of history and sadly for him he made it a tainted history.

And my one comment about Bonds was about adding perspective to the Ohtani season.

Which has been amazing, no doubt.

There most likely were many players using PEDs and PEDs were in the sport for some years. Perhaps decades. Some players dying early for some reason are headscratchers. And there were players who were physically more muscular than they looked when younger. I do not know if PED's advanced in detection and/or not causing eventual injuries, diseases and death. however, the money a player can make is a great inducement. Unfortunately talking about the legends over different eras really does not matter anymore to many fans. And today's players may be looked at with suspicion even if innocent.

Ohtani does it in style
A game for the ages

Hits 3 HRs to give him 51
Steals 2 Bases to give him 50
Drives in 10 RBIs to give him 120
Hits 2 Doubles to give him 34
Goes 6-6 for the day
Haven’t followed baseball at all this year.

You’d think after 30/30, pitchers would start pitching around him maybe... The Dodgers must have a hell of a line up.

The league had no problem putting Selig and Tony LaRussa in the HOF while they exploited steroid players
