Interesting concept and possible dilemma for for the Democrats. If all the conservative counties petitioned to separate from the bright blue states and the Congress accepted the new states, it would greatly increase the power and influence of the GOP and greatly diminish that of the Democrats. I know at least half of New Mexico would fall into that category. The seceding counties in Illinois would be New Illinois or West Illinois. Not sure what seceding counties from New Mexico would call their new state--Newest New Mexico? The only problem is most of the red counties in New Mexico are contiguous counties except for Catron county on the western state line completely surrounded by blue counties.

But Americans have always been the most innovative and ingenious of people. They could figure it out.

Of the 102 counties in Illinois, just 13 voted for Vice President Kamala Harris in the election​

And that was enough to pull the state to Harris' blue side. The people of Illinois are fed up. It would be an entirely red state if not for the city of Chicago. People have HAD IT with big blue city tyranny and are ready to revolt against democrats.

Here is a map of the blue fading of Illinois just between '96 and 2020. It is even redder now.

What is needed is an amendment to overturn Morris v Board of Estimate so States can have geographical upper house representation and per person lower house representation.

If you look at a map of Illinois, any state really, it is all red but for the Chicago area. Real shame the whole state has to pay for the misdeeds of one city.
