Today's Gospel was from Chapter 9 of Mark, where the Apostles were arguing among themselves who would be the greatest. When Jesus asked them what they had been arguing over, they all fell silent. Jesus said to them that those who wish to be greatest must be the servant of all.

Today's first reading was from the book of Wisdom: Could it be the more things change, the more things remain the same? A lot of this verse reminds me of what the powerful in this nation have put Donald Trump through, or for that matter, anyone who challenges those in power.

The wicked say:
Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us;
he sets himself against our doings,
reproaches us for transgressions of the law
and charges us with violations of our training.
Let us see whether his words be true;
let us find out what will happen to him.
For if the just one be the son of God, God will defend him
and deliver him from the hand of his foes.
With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test
that we may have proof of his gentleness
and try his patience.
Let us condemn him to a shameful death;
for according to his own words, God will take care of him.

Finally a homily noted that psychologists have noted that many who are continually depressed have this in common: Their lives, their wants and wishes, their ambitions are centered on themselves. God's commands and Commandments are always centered on what is best for us. What is best for us, is not great ambition for ourselves, but to serve others, placing others at the center of our great ambition. Could it be...sometimes...when we are going through a bout of depression, is that our thoughts and ambitions have been too much on self and not enough on others?

What say you about anything that was presented at Mass today?

This will probably ruffle a lot of feathers, but I think most Christians ignore (or forget) this teaching about what true greatness means. I'm in the middle of making a video on this topic, as far as how it relates to our dominion (how we rule) over the animals.

This reminds me of a quote by MLK Jr. that I love. Here it is. A shortened version of it....

“...everybody can be great because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”

― Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Good homily. "Jesus said to them that those who wish to be greatest must be the servant of all."

Trump is not servant of all.

Jesus said to them that those who wish to be greatest must be the servant of all.

jesus would never have used that word, servant - all in the heavens are equal.

the 1st century events centered on self determination in lite for the general good than ruled by the commandments of others.

Jesus said that those who want to be great must be the servant of all, as stated in Matthew 20:26:

Matthew 20:26
"But it should not be that way among you. Whoever wants to become great among you must serve the rest of you like a servant. Whoever wants to become first among you must serve the rest of you like a slave".

Matthew 20:28
"For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many".

though appealing on its surface ... the paraphrasing is deliberately misleading.

matthew has issues throughout their document - servitude is their word not jesus's. the intent of those in the 1st century is to free themselves from the false commandments of judaism.

- to be equals among the heavenly.
