You believe Portland and Vancouver aren't coastal cities. Maybe you should tell them that, they could save money by dismantling their Port Authorities. I guess you'll believe anything thenI have no idea what that has to do with this thread, but cities always spring up where trade routes meet. The coastal cities are where the ports are.
Universities and businesses tend to locate in relatively close proximity to where the people are. There are a number of highly regarded universities and companies that can be found in the Midwest too. Notre Dame, etc.
Your partisan political rationale is just that- partisan political speech. Hell, Portland and Vancouver aren't even coastal cities. They are inland, situated on rivers (Willamette and Columbia).
