A common rallying cry of the right in America, to justify regressive morality laws, is often to say that "America was founded as a Christian country" with "Judeo-Christian values" while the common response from the left is to declare that the United States was founded as an explicitly secular country with a separation of church and state. Would it surprise you to learn both are wrong?

An interesting article that shows both sides in a non antagonistic, and debatable format.

you will believe anything someone tells you,,

might be why youre hiding this in CDZ cause you know you will get hammered on such a dumb comment,,

our whole justice system comes from it,,

Judaism and Islam share many tenets, so it would be more correct to separate things into "Judeo-Islamic vlaues" and "Christian values."

For example, Judaism and Islam both feature a single indivisible deity. Christianity does not.

Judaism and Islam both feature a very strict code to live by that covers all aspects of life. Christianity does not.

wrong,, Christianity dictates private life,, islam dictates all your life both public and private,,

Article is hidden behind a paywall, so it has no credibility whatsoever.

Not that it would, anyway. The source is AlterNet, a rather obscure left wrong-wing lies and propaganda site, owned the same owners as the much more well-known left wrong-wing lies and propaganda site RawStory.

Whatever is claimed in the article that they are so ashamed of that they keep it hidden behind a paywall, is surely exactly the sort of bullshit that one knows to expect from such a source.

Unless you happen to be a baker or photographer in public accommodation?

No human culture has any set of values that are not easily set aside for the sake of convenience.

How "convenient" has it been to battle the twin evils of slavery and abortion?
It's been a fight that has gone on for centuries and slavery still flourishes right under our noses
in many parts of the world.

Freedom and sanctity of human life are values that this country has always backed, in the majority.
Your comment is just cynical, easily disproved and the same people that bash religion and
laugh at it are the ones with little regard for human freedom and the sanctity of life.

Good topic, and so hopefully it will survive in the CDZ section and not be thrown into the section for discussion of religious superstitions?

Don't preach at me hypocrite. Everyone has blood on their hands in some way. If you had an actual sense of morality you would not be acting like you are somehow clean.

Morality has always been an imposed set of values that do not extend to those who sit in judgement. There is always an escape hatch for moral codes that might make wars, theft and tyranny hard to accomplish.

I actually am clean of the sins of slavery and the murder of the unborn. Not guilty. The question is why are you so touchy and sensitive on the subject?

They are a link in the long chain of history that is the same on every continent and in every nation in the world.
They just happen to be one of the last major links, that they themselves are part of. Of larger groups, tribes, nations, ect. gobbling up and replacing those that came before.

It's a fact of human life. And of animal life too, by the way.

You are wrong. We were NOT explicitly secular nor set up to be that way.
