U.S. tech giants have joined the call for investing in U.S. microchip producers. The CHIPS for America Act seeks $50 billion in aid for domestic chip manufacturing.

In other words, he wants to further run up the debt by giving $50 billion to some of the wealthiest companies in the country, the same companies which sent the their microchip production overseas to begin with.

Can you say "Solyndra" 100 times?

"Some of the world's biggest chip buyers, including Apple, Microsoft and Google, are joining top chip-makers such as Intel to create a new lobbying group to press for government chip manufacturing subsidies.

The newly formed Semiconductors in America Coalition, which also includes Amazon Web Services, said Tuesday it has asked U.S. lawmakers to provide funding for the CHIPS for America Act, for which President Joe Biden has asked Congress to provide $50 billion."

They're planning on throwing Taiwan to the CCP.

And what happens if China stops shipments of chips? or chip producing parts and materials?

And what happens if China stops shipments of chips?

Why would they do that? Between the profit they make from manufacturing them, and the embedded features they put in them to spy on you, they will keep supplying the world with their microchips.

Why would china not do this as the chip shortage would shut down almost all of the American economy as chips are involved in everything

12% of the chips are made in the US.
Seventy-five percent of the world's chip manufacturing comes out of Asia, per the report, and China is positioned to become the largest chip producer by 2030.

Why the decline in the US? It became cheaper to build chip facilities in countries outside of the US. Those foreign governments offer more attractive financial incentives to construct semiconductor factories, like tax breaks and grants. There's also less regulation in places like Asia. On top of that, there aren't as many jobs in the US created to run such high-tech factories.

---------------------------------
50 billion will go to chip makers and that will take a couple years, for now the price of things go higher.

Its a good thing. Not a swindle.

Given the costs to build semiconductor factories and given the importance the semiconductor sector is to our national economy, our president once again on then right track to invest 50 billion dollars in this industry. If there is a criticism, it is that it‘s not nearly enough.

shouldn't the companies profiting off the chips like Amazon be the ones to pony up the case for their business?

It was you hate filled repigs that cursed the Chinese about everything. Biden wants to make those chips here to stop them placing bugging devices all over the country. Think about it.
You'll do anything to ridicule Biden. You know nothing.

This is yet another example of ineptitude in Congress.

Let me explain...

Congress gave Verizon billions of dollars to put broadband internet in rural areas...

They took the money but got barely 50 miles of broadband done... saying "they got enough"...today broadband internet in rural areas still is spotty at best.

Skylink is better but expensive. And he didn't ask the gubberment for a nickel.

So now we got 50 billion for infrastructure for domestic chip production...which is going to turn into 50 billion in stock buybacks...to line pockets.

Versus...here's some money to test a vaccine and block all lawsuits for damages.

Obviously one method worked and another didn't.

It takes two years to make a microchip plant.... from memory chips to processing.

4 nm ultraviolet laser chipmaking is going to take some time to put together....only 14 machines per year. But nobody wants to actually build one in America...

Taiwan does, so does Japan, so does Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Korea. Which currently is the reason why we are in the mess we are in.

PRC currently has a moratorium on being able to actually purchase the machines...(which is why they are pissed at us and want to re-unify themselves with Taiwan)

This law is making things worse not better.

China wanting to "re-unify themselves with Taiwan" is a gentle way of putting it. Taiwan produces around 60% of the worlds chips. China would like to invade Taiwan with everything they got to own Taiwan's chip industries. They are gradually inching toward that.

Absolutely!
The machines that manufacture the chips are hard to come by...we only make 14 per year and the technology is not subject to theft because the qualified operators and maintenance staff comes with each machine...they are behemoths of technology. But PRC thinks they can steal all of it and make slaves out of the highly skilled staff needed to operate them....then they want control the chip market entirely.

Not to mention that most countries that produce technology in Computing have serious private investments in Taiwan...everything from LCD screens to sound cards are made there with the highly skilled and trained workforce .

Taiwan has also promised a "scorched earth" policy where if they think they are going to lose their independence they are going to destroy everything of value that PRC wants.

Not feasible. We already have a shortage. Because almost nobody makes them here, and the foreign makers are not keeping up.
Then Biden must subsidize US chip companies if you don't want the high price & pains of shortage from import bans while US manufacturing ramps up.

If Taiwan goes down, everybody goes down too.

It does seem sort of ironic.
