HaHaHa, this is rich. Look back at some archives--Oakland and SF had elevated double decker freeways (and bridges, Bay bridge) until Oct. 1987. During the Bay area World Series, the Loma Prieta earthquake struck. A double decker freeway in downtown Oakland collapsed--another on SF Fisherman's Wharf collapsed and a section of the upper deck of the bay bridge collapsed. As a result, all double decker freeways are gone with the exception of a portion of the bay bridge. Maybe the powers that be are hoping for another Loma Prieta quake. Problem solved.

Sounds like a simple solution, but I think that is a really difficult proposition. The building has to meet housing codes, and then need security, and homeless people want to do drugs, and can't have that in a secured building. And so, homeless people will leave, and go back under the overpasses.

Not all homeless people are crazy or addicts. I know. I was one for about 4 months. I met many that thru illness and loss of work, that found themselves in such a dilema. Good for them to build a nice place for themselves. Now all they need is to make damn sure addicts don't trash it up.

Seems to me they had a squatters encampment in an abandoned warehouse in Oakland a couple of years ago. Apparently there were problems with electrical and it burned down with some loss of life.
