Calling for a Constitutional Convention?

We don't need a constitutional convention. We DO need to amend the Constitution to enact needed reforms such as Congressional Term Limits and a Balanced Budget Amendment. There is no way that Congress will start the amendment process in these needed reforms. That is what an Article V Convention of States is for. 34 states need to request a Convention of States on the same issue(s). We are well on the way to doing that. When that happens, Congress is required to call for a Convention of States. The convention will take up the issues that they were called to take up. I hope that they will pass term limits for Congress and a Balanced Budget Amendment. What they pass must be approved by 38 states in the same way that other proposed amendments have to pass in order to become enacted..

A Constitutional Convention at this point would be a zoo, and a catastrophe. It would allow for literally *every* aspect of the Constitution to be rewritten, and every faction we have would be pulling out all of the stops to scrape out and resculpt every phrase in the greatest political document ever written. The best we could hope for after that would be a period of anarchy, money-grabbing, and manipulated injustice on a grand scale, followed by a bland, toothless replacement. More likely would be a fragmented and eternally contested Frankenstein's monster thing with unintended consequences for decades and every international opponent taking advantage of the chaos in horrifyingly inventive ways.

A disaster, it would be.
