Zone1 “Chattel Slavery”

Yes, we can indeed share the same facts.

The Homestead Acts gave away 246 million acres of land. To qualify for Homestead land, a person had to be a citizen of the United States, and blacks were not given citizenship until 1866. Research shows that 99.73 percent of that land went to whites, including white immigrants.1.5 million white families were given free land, the equivalent of a minimum of $500,000 per family. Today, 93 million whites still benefit from the Homestead Act, this is about forty percent of the current white population in America.

Chattel slavery was often better to be a slave because the owner had a vested interest in keeping their slaves in good health so they would be productive. Others like Irish immigrants were worked to death. (similar to company slaves in the W. Indies).

As many as 20,000 Irish immigrants perished from cholera and yellow fever during the six-year construction of the New Basin Canal, begun in 1832. The victims were buried wherever they died.

The immigrant Irishmen who hacked through swampland with picks and shovels were paid $1 a day for their labor. Wives were paid 50 cents for a half-day's work, considered too dangerous for slaves who sold from $500 to $1,500 each.

Slavery was not uniquely evil in America.
