Sing Tao Daily, a Hong Kong newspaper, reported on Sept. 3 that Dalian Maritime University plans to open "a Ryukyu research center" to conduct studies on Okinawa. The Ryukyu Islands is the old name for the southernmost Japanese prefecture, which was the Ryukyu Kingdom for 450 years from 1429 to 1879.

If set up, it will be the first research center specializing in Okinawa at a higher education institution in China. The military-linked university is located in the port city of Dalian in northeastern China's Liaoning province.

....

The headline of the Hong Kong newspaper article referred to the "Ryukyu card," suggesting that China is making preparations to bring up the issue of Okinawa's status as part of Japan as a key weapon to warn Tokyo against interfering in the Taiwan issue, which Beijing claims as an internal affair.

Now, this is an interesting ploy by China. The most obvious flaw is that the people of Okinawa do not claim to not be a part of Japan and do not have their own central government.

The chi-coms better watch out!

Thirty-four US Navy ships are hit by kamikazes off Okinawa in the first of 10 large-scale attacks which the Japanese called “kikusuis” meaning “chrysanthemums floating on water” as part of their operation Ten-Go. This first attack lasted five hours and involved 355 kamikazes and over 300 fighter escorts.

That's not good.

The people of Okinawa consider themselves Okinawans first and Japanese second, but they have no love for China nor the desire/will to be an independent nation.

Yes, I know that, and they have their own central government.

Thus the reason why China's attempt to compare the two fails.

I think china is just trying to stir up trouble

And other than US servicemen molesting local women I dont think the Oki’s are unhappy with their situation

You think? No way!

It is a mixed bag. I was there when they did the "Hands around Kadena" and made a human chain around the entire AFB. The bases are on prime real estate and some do not appreciate that fact. Then there is the noise pollution and other problems. But the bases are also one of the largest employers on the island

In a way, Okinawa is similar to Taiwan. With around 26,000 U.S. military personnel stationed on Okinawa today, Okinawa is occupied by the U.S. military under the Status of Forces Agreement. The Okinawa locals are extremely unhappy about the Status of Forces Agreement and the current prime minister proposed to amend it, which made Washington uncomfortable.

China is trolling Japan.

What most people don't realize is that China has the same Achille's heel that Japan did in WWII.

China is a net importer of oil. All we have to do is turn off the tap and China's done.

This stupid pet trick about Okinawa should be ignored. Don't feed the troll.
