Democrats Spent Years Running Their Cities’ Budgets Into The Red. Now That Tab Is Finally Coming Due

24 Apr 2025 ~~ By Ireland Owens

Several major blue cities in the U.S. have been marred by a slate of massive budgetary problems in recent years.
City officials in Chicago and Los Angeles are currently grappling with how to address substantial budget shortfalls. Meanwhile, Philadelphia is struggling with various financial issues across several sectors, with both its school district and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), the city’s public transit system, facing massive budget deficits.
Chicago is facing a projected budget gap of nearly $1.2 billion for fiscal year 2026. The city’s budget deficit has largely been exacerbated by soaring pension costs, declining state revenue and rising personnel costs.

According to a December 2024 report from the Reason Foundation, a libertarian think tank.
“When a city is in financial jeopardy, the state usually plays a role in helping out in the long term,” Sharkey told the DCNF. “But, unfortunately for Chicago, Illinois is broke too. A lot of it has to do with our [Illinois’] pension spending.”

Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass during a State of the City address on Monday proposed laying off more than 1,600 government workers to close her city’s growing budget gap. The city’s budget crisis has notably been worsened by costly litigation, wildfire relief expenses and large pay raises for city employees.

The School District of Philadelphia is facing a projected budget deficit of roughly $300 million for fiscal year 2026, WHYY reported. The school district is planning to use 40% of its reserve fund to cover the budget shortfall, according to the outlet.
The district’s budget gap has largely been exacerbated by decades of underfunding and rising costs, such as expenses related to charter school payments and employee salaries.

Commentary:
Blue Plantation Sanctuary Cities with corrupt administrations, lawlessness, high crime and now on the brink of bankruptcy?
Who woulda thunk it?
Each of the cities run into the ground by Democrats for decades.... Why anyone in the "right mind" votes for these country, state and city wreckers is a mystery.
Thankfully, Trump was elected in November, had Harris and her co-conspirators cheated their way to a win, billions of federal bailout money would now be flowing to those corrupt and incompetent Democrat cities puttin American citizens further into debt.
To solve these cities problems is not rocket science. Responsible people do it everyday. "Do not spend money you don't have". If you over-promised pensions, benefits and salaries that's your problem and so called reparations. They MUST be cut regardless of a "promise".
Unfortunately, politicians appear to care very very little about future generations obligations for our selfishness. It's all about me seems to be the current thinking. Zero virtue or morality.

Seattle and WA state are in the same boat. The only answer the democrats can come up with is MILLIONAIRE TAX. Good luck with that. LOL As Perot would say, "There will be a giant sucking sound" as business and tax paying citizens exit to fiscally responsible states.

What really screwed Lib cities was the pandemic- on several levels.

One, people realized they really didn't lose anything not going to central hell hole inner city cores.

Things can be done remotely, as they learved from Fauci's Folly.

The 2nd reason is that inner city bums considered the ban on evictions during the pandemic to be a "rent holiday", so they just didn't pay. And got evicted after the liberal plandemic was over.

And the 3rd reason was the massive subsidies the federal government sent local governments during the event. They used the money, instead of using to shore up their short term finances due to the pandemic, they used it to create new, ongoing Government Waste and are too stupid just to pull the plug on it so their expenses have soared.

Thie is happening in Canada too. Insolvency due to a massive S.I.C. What horrible management and respect for our Charter. Laws to balance books must be enacted with stiff consequences for those who fail, the stsrting point of which should be these politicians losing their jobs.

Republicans live in those cities, and Republicans sit on these city councils.

Spare us the dailycaller garbage. We have a red feeder government fuckingup the entire nation. From 2016-2020 we had a red president, he fucked up the entire nation. From 2000-2008, we had a red president, he fucked up the entire nation. So try something else, like republicans taking responsibility for their massive fails.

California and several other States are bankrupt
In spite of having the highest taxes in the country. Why? Because everyone want's one of those cushy government jobs where you get a huge salary, mega benefits and lotto like pension after only 20 years. Now all the freeloaders are vampire sucking the states dry.

California repeatedly tried to get Obama to federally bail out it's state retirement fund, which was under funded $300 billion way back then.

Wichita KS?

Austin Texass?

Miami Floriduh?

Those red cities?

Mark my words, if Dems get the right majority in congress and president in the White House that giant sucking sound will be the other 40+ states bailing out the bankrupt Dem states.

Republicans live in those cities, and Republicans sit on these city councils.
Not in high enough numbers to create change.

And in Shithole of Chicago, the 50 member city council has Zero Republican members.

Miami, Florida, a red city, is facing bankruptcy.

Jefferson County, Alabama, a deep red county, declared bankruptcy due to out of control spending on a sewage system project.

Jefferson County fell prey to a rigged bond scheme by Goldman Sachs.

Most states are facing a ticking time bomb in their employee pension plans. To garner votes, successive governors enacted more and more generous pension packages knowing they would be long retired and on the golf course when those bombs went off.

Kamala won Jefferson County by 11 points in 2024 and has been won by the D's since the time of B. Hussein O.
