Flashback: ISIS are like the JV of Terrorists

A few things to note:

1.) Al Qaeda Central was decimated, first by our invasion of Afghanistan, and then by our subsequent drone program and international cooperation (in one significant instance from Iran as well). That hasn't changed. Al Qaeda central is still relatively weak and unable to carry out large scale operations. Even more dangerous in the Pakistani/Afghan area now is the Haqqani Network.

2.) Yemen does represent a successful area of counter terror operations. The recent north-south civil conflict doesn't in any way diminish the success we've seen against AQAP. That is a completely different and unrelated issue to the operations that we have engaged in regarding Yemen.

3.) ISIS (ISI at the time) had been soundly beaten with the 2005 Awakening. Its revival was in no small part due to the policies of the Maliki government coupled with the Syrian civil war.
