YOu guys keep telling us what great fans of free speech you are, what's your take on this?

Presidential Envoy for Special Missions Richard Grenell accused Voice of Americaā€™s Chief National Correspondent Steve Herman of acting in a ā€œtreasonousā€ way for posting a quote critical of the Trump administration while reporting on recent lawsuits being filed against the Trump administration following the shuttering of USAID over the weekend.

He quoted someone who said destroying USAID makes American less safe at home and abroad. He posted his article on twitter where Grenell saw it and replied.

ā€œArenā€™t you a taxpayer funded ā€œreporterā€ for @voa?ā€

ā€œWhy are you working against President Trumpā€™s reform plans for the U.S. budget? You werenā€™t elected. It isnā€™t too much to suggest this is treasonous. You donā€™t get to work against the official U.S. government policies while being paid by US taxpayers. You should be immediately fired,ā€ added Grenell, who Trump also recently made the Kennedy Centerā€™s interim executive director.

Pretty sure he's just doing his job, but the trumpers don't see it that way. You must be loyal or you must be in prison, or worse.

Lol when Biden had a pre-screened press pool, you have very little standing in talking about free press.

If the reporter works for the administration it is his duty to forward the administration's agenda. Although not treasonous, certainly treacherous.

If this 'reporter' wants to criticize the president he should do so from the private sector.

Steve Herman

@W7VOA
Eliminating USAID "makes Americans less safe at home and abroad," says Skye Perryman, president of Democracy Forward. Steve Herman (@w7voa@journa.host)

First of all that is his opinion... so he should state that its his opinion and also have a guest comment who disagrees with him... That would be fine and good solid reporting for an opinion piece...
VOA is fully funded by tax dollars and Steve forgot that I guess... in WW2 government reporters and photographers were put in jail for much less...

I prefer free donuts

(you don' seen to enjoy 'free press' unless it's bashing Trump, and I'm not all that sure that press is actually free.)

No one is destroying USAID, they're just getting a haircut.

The press isn't free. USAID pays for it.

Probably so and most unfortunate. It needs eliminating along with most of the federal government.
