Germany’s federal parliament, the Bundestag, overwhelmingly passed a motion on Wednesday to address antisemitism and hostility toward Israel in schools and universities, seeking to combat a surge in pro-Hamas demonstrations on campuses and antisemitic incidents across the country.

After the Hamas-led invasion of and massacre across southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, Germany has seen a record increase in antisemitic incidents and disruptive pro-Hamas protests, including the occupation of university buildings. The Oct. 7 atrocities, in which 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 hostages were abducted to Gaza, started the Israel-Hamas war.

The parliamentary motion stipulates that the federal government — in collaboration with the ministers of education and the German Rectors’ Conference, an association of state and state-recognized universities — must ensure that antisemitic behavior in educational institutions results in sanctions.

“This includes the consistent enforcement of house rules, temporary exclusion from classes or studies, and even … expulsion,” the motion reads.

According to the proposal, the federal government should also increase funding for research on antisemitism and contemporary Jewish studies, while also supporting cooperation with Israeli science and opposing any boycott of the Jewish state.

It's a good step but they are fighting an uphill battle now that they have so many people in their country from parts unknown.

When I was young I had a nice T-Shirt with a shadowed head of a man from South America called "Che Guevarra". I heard he had been a freedom fighter and a nice guy who had been killed from Fidel Castro. The picture was damn pretty. I liked this T-shirt. Years later I read a long excerpt about terror and did not know who had been the author. In the end I was convinced it had been Adolf Hitler's ideas about terror. No! It had been Che Guevarra's ideas about terror. I was damn frustrated that I ever had bought this damn T-shirt.

I guess one day all this young students who demonstrate for the wrong things will also find their way. But right now they are putting coal in the wrong oven, which could easily fly around their ears at any time.

I love how 'pro Hamas' becomes 'anti Semitism' in the world victims' minds.

"Pro Hamas" = "Pro Terrorism". That's not the same as to be "Pro Palestine" or "Pro Palestinians". And anti-Semitism in this context is for example to call Jews Nazis who do a genocide on Palestines. Fact is in this context the opposite: The Palestines have the highest population growth all over the world - thanks of Israel. And extermination plans, actions or camps for Palestines do not exist. That's absurde. If such perverted propagandistic nonsense stupidities would be true then all Palestines would be dead within one or some months. What I can see: The Hamas calculates with the humanity of the Jews. For the terrorist organization Hamas, humanity is the Achilles' heel of the Western World.
