Here's a question I'd love to see answered by supporters of trump.

Do you see how something like this would make a high ranking government official think twice about questioning the President?

Among tax lawyers, the most invasive type of random audit carried out by the I.R.S. is known, only partly jokingly, as “an autopsy without the benefit of death.”

The odds of being selected for that audit in any given year are tiny — out of nearly 153 million individual returns filed for 2017, for example, the I.R.S. targeted about 5,000, or roughly one out of 30,600.

One of the few who received a bureaucratic letter with the news that his 2017 return would be under intensive scrutiny was James B. Comey, who had been fired as F.B.I. director that year by President Donald J. Trump. Furious over what he saw as Mr. Comey’s lack of loyalty and his pursuit of the Russia investigation, Mr. Trump had continued to rail against him even after his dismissal, accusing him of treason, calling for his prosecution and publicly complaining about the money Mr. Comey received for a book after his dismissal.

Mr. Comey was informed of the audit in 2019. Two years later, the I.R.S., still under the leadership of a Trump appointee after President Biden took office, picked about 8,000 returns for the same type of audit Mr. Comey had undergone from the 154 million individual returns filed in 2019, or about one in 19,250.

Among those who were chosen to have their 2019 returns scrutinized was the man who had been Mr. Comey’s deputy at the bureau: Andrew G. McCabe, who served several months as acting F.B.I. director after Mr. Comey’s firing.

Shouldn't any prez want to have his decisions challenged by his staff so they are fully vetted?

Isn't Comey the guy that started the Crossfire Hurricane FBI investigation of Trump based on the fake Russian dossier financed by the Clinton campaign? Didn't Comey's FBI immediately go after Gen. Flynn during the transition? Why would Trump trust him?

Why do you think Comey and McCabe are above IRS audits? You had no problem with Harris voting for 80k more IRS auditors to go after small business owners....you said nothing when Obama and Xiden targeted conservatives?

Why do you think Comey and McCabe shouldn't be audited?

There are two different criteria for being audited. The first, as mentioned above is random chance. People who are audited by random chance are intended to be a statistical control group. The IRS audits these folks and identifies patterns of tax evasion, and calculates the probability of tax evasion for future years based on specific information on the returns.

The second group are people whose returns are assessed by the "IRS Computer" has having a strong likelihood of tax evasion. For a personal example, I used to work with a fine woman who gave an inordinate percentage of her taxable income to charities, mainly church organisations and such. The percentage was so extraordinary that she was singled out for audit EVERY YEAR. She retained all her receipts and cancelled checks, and the audits were quick and easy. But she was audited every year.

There is no way of knowing why any individual was chosen for audit. As indicated above, it is extremely rare for a random person to be audited, but if there is something on their return that piques the IRS curiosity, an audit becomes more likely. When going through that latter group, they first audit the people who would appear to have a 99% probability of shenanigans, then 98%, and on down until they run out of resources for that year, then the start over again with the next year.

The premise of the OP is so outrageous that it is almost funny. Trump is the most persecuted public official in the history of the United States. He has been uniquely called out for prosecution by an incredible number of agencies and departments, Federal and State, and faces the prospect of spending the rest of his natural life in jail and being totally impoverished for NOT A FUCKING THING, and we are to think ill of him because a couple of ne'er-do-wells GOT AUDITED, and it might have been at Trump'r urging??????????

Are you FUCKING serious??????????????????????????????????/

Among Trump’s countless failings as ‘president’ was his refusal to listen to advisors, where Trump, the consequence of his ignorance, stupidity, and incompetence, would pursue reckless, irresponsible policies contrary to wise counsel – a failing that renders Trump unfit to be president.

The Xiden admin didn't have a Trump appointtee running the IRS in 2021....Janet Yellen was running the agency and reporting directly to Xiden and Harris.

Why do you dembots fall for such nonsense?

Gee, is that anything like when Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard
questioned Joe Biden and he put her on the terrorist watch list?

I am not sure how your op-ed deals with the OP.

With that said, trump listened to advisors, far more then Xiden and Harris....Harris and Xiden ignored their advisor and surrendered to the Taliban, leading to death and destruction.

but let's stay on topic.

LOL, how many of Biden's 87K new IRS agents time was taken up with those audits?

no, comey is the guy who publicly opened the e mail investigation a few days before the election at trump's bidding and for trump's benefit.

We didn't send him to DC to listen to the Swamp Creatures.

Actually the investigation was open long before then, closed, but reopened when a bunch of govt emails she had were discovered during a child porn investigation of her pal Weiner

You mean like Biden's staff, who all together, including Harris, engaged in a cover up of Biden's mental and physical health?
