Heritage Action for America For Defunding Obamacare before they were Against it, in a matter of one day? Come on, give me a break! :cuckoo:

Come on people...on Friday they urged GOP House members to back the bill and it is being reported that on Saturday they urged GOP Senators to block the bill.

What the heck is going on with right wingers?

Heritage Action was first announced in April 2010 by Ed Feulner, president of The Heritage Foundation. He stated the purpose of the organization was to harness "grassroots energy to increase the pressure on Members of Congress to embrace The Heritage Foundation’s policy recommendations." He also stated it would not be involved in election campaigns. Heritage Action for America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

During the health care debates, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa offered an amendment to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that would require Congress to purchase its insurance from the exchanges, set up by the law. Sen. Grassley’s move was done for no other reason than to derail the legislation, hoping to siphon off a few Democratic votes. Democrats, in a show of unity for the legislation, let the amendment pass. Congress heretofore had received essentially the same socialized health care benefits as military personnel and would end up paying more if members and staffers had to purchase health care through insurance companies.

As implementation of the law drew near, Congress requested that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid seek an exemption from the Republican amendment, so that members and staffers could receive subsidies toward the health care exchanges, and President Barack Obama approved the request. Once approved, it became a new GOP rallying cry: “Obama exempts Congress from this terrible legislation, should exempt everyone!”

As for the evidence backing up wingnut world's arguments..is it true premiums are coming in a bit lower than was anticipated by the Congressional Budget Office?

Even in 2012 the right was sticking it's head in the sand over changing numbers...

[The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation just recently released the updated cost estimates on the health insurance provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Since the U.S. Supreme Court gave the states the right to refuse Medicaid expansion, the CBO estimates that this will cost $84 billion dollars less to implement the provisions of Obamacare. A bit lower than anticipated? Little obie siad it would drop by 2500 a year, looks more like an increase of 7500 per year on top of not working full time so your wages drop by 25%. What the f*ck was your anticipation?

Congress and an Exemption from ‘Obamacare’?
Posted on May 3, 2013 | Updated on Aug. 7, 2013

Q: Is it true that there are bills in Congress that would exempt members and their staffs and families from buying into “Obamacare”?

A: No. Congress members and staffers will be required to buy insurance through the exchanges on Jan. 1.

[Update, Aug. 7, 2013: The Office of Personnel Management issued a proposed rule on Aug. 7 explaining that members of Congress and applicable congressional staff will be required to purchase health insurance coverage through the exchanges created by the law. However, according to the proposed rule, the federal government, as the employer, will still be able to make a contribution to health insurance premiums as it currently does. The contribution will be no greater than that now offered to members and their staffs under the FEHB program, and members and their staffs will not be eligible for premium tax credits made available to other persons purchasing health insurance through the exchanges.

Pardon, but what is the right going on about this? It is used as one of a myriad of myths and lies for backing up the weirdo argument to defund Obamacare

How very gay and culturally sophisticated of AzMike ...

The Obie Awards or Off-Broadway Theater Awards are annual awards given by The Village Voice newspaper to theatre artists and groups in New York City. As the Tony Awards cover Broadway productions, the Obies cover Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway productions.

...but I'm puzzled what the Obie has to do with the thread/

I'm going to make this as Dante comprehensible as possible as it would seem Dante is incapable of basic mental functions that would arrive at a cognitive rational conclusion.

Let me slow this down for Dante, Dante is slow so we need to speak slowly and with purpose so as not to confuse Dante. Dante is easily confused and therefore simple math and procedure will not do in explaining things to Dante. We really need to dumb things down for Dante or he just won't be able to comprehend.

I'm going to go through this slowly so maybe Dante can keep up. I highlighted the key words in Dante's original post and I hope he can read them. If not let's break this down.

The Office of Personnel Management issued a proposed rule on Aug. 7 explaining that members of Congress and applicable congressional staff will be required to purchase health insurance coverage through the exchanges created by the law. Required to participate in obiecare, not a bad rule I think. As long as obiecare is the law of the land maybe the government workers should be the first to sign up for this plan? Their bosses passed this law after all.

However What is this Dante? This is a however. In other words an exception to the rule for special people. People excluded from the original intent of the law will now get a "however" exclusion for this law. Can Dante follow what is happening here? However means not included Dante. The people that passed Dante's favorite law are no longer subject to the same law Dante is. What can a Dante do!?

Well let's see what Dante can do...
according to the proposed rule, the federal government, as the employer, will still be able to make a contribution to health insurance premiums as it currently does

Well it looks like unless Dante is a government employee, who had their healthcare previously paid for in full by the tax payers he just may fall subject to the new taxes and fines that Dante must pay so that the government workers can avoid joining Dante in the health insurance scam but keep their tax payer funded system.

What can a Dante do in such a situation? Pay the taxes to keep the government out of Dante's healthcare system? Why would Dante do such a thing when the healthcare system Dante wants is so perfect? This doesn't make sense to even someone as slow as Dante. Why should Dante pay more in taxes for government employees to get better healthcare than what the government has decided Dante deserves?

Is Dante confused? Is Dante just stupid? Or has Dante not quite followed through on his third person logic long enough to realize it is his first person that will pay the price?

"The Office of Personnel Management issued a proposed rule on Aug. 7 explaining..."

Explaining why? A Repiblican Senator put an amendment into the bill.

Nothing is quite as simple or devious as imbecilic simpletons on the right would make it be or demand it be. Democracy is messy as is life and legislation.

Dante seems a little slow even for Dante. Is Dante even comprehending what is happening? I'm sure Dante is confused and unable to work this situation out. It's total Dante confusion to the point of Dante incromprehension. When will Dante wake up?

Dante is confused. Dante can't understand why people not Dante wouldn't be accepting of the rules Dante thinks need to be applied to Dante but not the government or their buddies. Dante thinks democracy only applies to the people in government and the rest of the Dante's are just subjects there to provide support. Being a Dante is messy, it involves a lot of people just going full Dante and handing over their lives to the elected Dante's that the elected Dante's will use as pawns to further the destruction of Dante. Dante...is...very...confused.

Is congress exempt from ObamaCare
Is congress exempt from ObamaCare?

It's not that they are exempt-- they already have a health insurance plan, as do presidents, supreme court judges, and other government employees. They are covered by the "Federal Employees Health Benefits Program." What you are asking about is similar to this situation: if your employer already covers you at work, you won't need to change that under the new health law. Federal employees are already covered, so they don't need any new plan.

Is Congress exempt from universal healthcare?

No, this is another internet myth.* The reason they don't have "ObamaCare" has nothing to do with being exempt.* The reality is they don't need it, because for many years, long before President Obama came to office, congress already had its own healthcare package.* Thus, members of congress simply kept the plan they already had.* It should also be noted that the
Congressional plan is not "free"-- there are premiums, and every member must pay for certain services.

Poor Dante, struggling here. I'm just going to let Dante read Dante's post again and see if he can come to the logical conclusion. Poor Dante is having trouble here.

One subtle point needs to be made: Large employers in the private sector are not required to put their employees onto the Obamacare exchanges. Given that Congress is a large employer, this isn’t, in the purest technical sense, about subjecting Congress to the same laws it imposes on other large employers. But it is about subjecting Congress to the laws it imposes on those who will have to buy insurance on the exchanges: individuals who don’t get coverage through their employers, and small businesses.

I know plenty of Republicans who have health care for the first time in decades and they're still bitching about Obamacare.

Let them stand on principle and refuse to access it when they need it most.

Raise their premiums tenfold (or drop them entirely) if they ever decide to use it.

Better yet, make them write a letter of thanks to President Obama and Representative Pelosi when they access it
