I don't know, just based on his website his stances seem to be run-of-the-mill GOP points, there was nothing I didn't expect to see... it's the safe route to play. And others have leadership experience they can play on, like him.
I guess his unique appeal is that he's a so-called Beltway outsider, so that could give him powerful traction as the cannabilism escalates and candidates try to toe the ideology line while at the same time appearing unique.
And another thing is he doesn't have a policy record that he'd have to distance himself from and risk looking like an opportunitic flipflopper, unlike Romney and Pawlenty, which can be both a positive and a negative. Words are worth much less than actions, and it seems like all he's got is words when it comes to policy. Out of the entire GOP field his candidacy will be the most intersting to keep an eye on.
