There is something so very satisfying in forge welding and making edge weapons.

This is Nakiri from pyramid Damascus steel.

The guy does nice work. I only have a few comments and questions:
  1. The guy dips his billet into water for cooling after welding the stack. It seemed to work OK for him but I would be afraid of introducing water between the pieces and causing a cold shut or forge scale that might add to delamination.
  2. The kitty litter thing, I assume this was for normalization of the steel.
  3. I'm not a big fan of handles which are held on by glue only. I like to see a few pins in there as well, especially on so custom a piece--- a mosaic pin would be nice too.
  4. I've not seen that pyramidal pattern done before but it turned out very nice.

I love watching History Channel's Forged in Fire...

I agree about the pins. Far more reliable and they add a nice touch to the overall appeal.

I bought a pizza cutter about a year ago (actually sold as a rotary knife, it is far too well made just to cut pizza), and it has a G10 handle pinned, with a center mosaic of black epoxy between a pattern of both brass and copper tubes. Thing actually totally disassembles for total cleaning.

And yeah, the thing cuts through sandwiches and flatbreads like they are not even there.
