The National Hurricane Center said Monday afternoon that a major hurricane will make landfall along the Florida Gulf coast on Thursday. The storm, which is still taking shape and will be named Helene, could become the strongest hurricane to hit the United States this season.

Forecast to rapidly intensify and come ashore as a Category 3 storm with sustained winds exceeding 111 miles per hour, Helene poses a significant threat to Florida residents.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency earlier in the day in 41 counties The declaration allows the state to execute its Comprehensive Emergency Management plan, allowing the use of resources for any logistical, rescue or evacuation operations.

“Now is the time to make an emergency plan, know your evacuation zone, and be as prepared as possible for the storm,” DeSantis said in a post on X.

It will be a Category 2 or 3 Hurricane
They are using the word "Detrimental"

A Category 3 hurricane has continuous winds between 111-129 mph, where "devastating damage will occur," the NWS said. "Well-built framed homes may incur major damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends. Many trees will be snapped or uprooted, blocking numerous roads. Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days to weeks after the storm passes," according to the agency.

Don't worry Florida.

We are loading 18-wheelers now with water and other cleaning items. Help is on the way. Just be patient. Trucks will arrive from all over America.

Your roads may be blocked with trees and other debris so be patient the trucks are coming. You know Texas is defiantly sending help.

This storm looks like it wants to hit:

Tallahassee
Atlanta
Memphis

Three predominantly black African America populated cities. It is making a b-line to each of them.

TAMPA, Fla. - A hurricane watch and a storm surge watch are in effect for portions of the Tampa Bay area with Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine expected to become Helene on Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The hurricane watch extends along the Gulf Coast from Sarasota County to the Florida Panhandle, including Tampa. That means hurricane force winds are possible within 48 hours.

A storm surge watch is also in effect along much of the Florida coast, along with a tropical storm watch for parts of southwest and northwest Florida, beyond the hurricane watch area.

As of 5 a.m. Tuesday, the system was at 18.9 N and 83.0 W with top winds of 35 mph and was moving northwest at 8 mph.

As for the timing, FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg says impacts will likely be felt in the Bay Area starting Wednesday night, with the worst weather being felt on Thursday.

Osterberg says storm surge will be a major concern for coastal areas, with the potential for significant flooding.

"From Chassahowitzka north, you could be looking at a 10 to 15 foot storm surge," Osterberg said.

A 5 to 8 foot storm surge is possible from Tampa Bay to Longboat Key, according to Osterberg, with 4 to 7 foot storm surge possible from Longboat Key to Englewood.

Models show the storm strengthening in the warm waters of the Gulf and Mexico and making landfall, possibly as a major hurricane, in the Big Bend area on Thursday. The exact timing and location will become clearer as the storm develops.

Blah, the remnants will be blown east and we will get rained on for a few days.

I don't like the look of things in the mountains of TN and KY though.

It's officially a Hurricane now. Still farting around in the Gulf. Supposedly headed for the Big Bend area of Florida. I'm not religious but that doesn't mean I don't think or care about our members down there. Best of luck to y'all.
