Hurricane Tracker: Helene Expected To Form, Rapidly Intensify And Make Landfall In Florida As A Major Storm

I'm in the track of the eye....strongest winds possible in Central Georgia.

It's been raining since last night....so the ground is soaked.

Winds are supposed to pick up around 8 and it will be a Cat 1 or 2 by the time it gets here. Moving fast it's supposed to head over Monteagle Mountain and on to Nashville TN.

Hurricane Helene was "beginning to move ashore" on Florida's Big Bend coast Thursday night as a monster Category 4 storm packing 140 mph winds, the National Hurricane Center said.

"Helene is producing catastrophic winds that will be spreading onshore in the Florida Big Bend region during the next few hours. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Persons should not leave their shelters and remain in place through," the hurricane center warned.

...the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration noting Helene's "wind field extends as far as 275 miles from its center." The effects of Helene will be felt as far inland as the Appalachian Mountains.

In my Mid Atlantic area the recent storms were a welcome relief for a drought summer but the federal weather warns us about flooding. Do they ever get it right
