Minnesota Senate passes tax bill on second vote - TwinCities.com

Under the legislation, the state's top income tax rate would increase to 9.4 percent from 7.85 percent on the taxable income of $80,000 or more for singles and more than $141,000 for couples.

This is why the small government ideas are so important. The income tax should be (mainly or completely) a state tax. Taxpayers should be able to move to another state if their lawmakers increase their taxes too much, without leaving the country. The word is competition.

Not rich, merely more affluent than some ergo facing a higher rate of taxes.

Compared to the people in Detroit they are rich. Can't have that.

But dont you worry....Bacrack will get everyone on equal footing soon enough.
That way he can further his goal to make us all equally miserable .

what does Benghazi Obama have to do with minnnesota?

I have no problem with my taxes going up, none.
You get what you pay for and Minnesota's quality of life is near the very top (ranked 3rd).
Hawaiians have highest well-being rating for 4th year
Oddball mentions one-party rule, yep that's the case now, we're run by Dems currently. Previously, Minnesota was run by the GOP and it's quality of life dipped according to organizations that do the ranking. Monies were funneled away from infrastructure and education and moved towards businesses and the uber wealthy. Most Minnesotans felt that maneuver, thus the conversion of one party rule from the GOP to the Dems. I'm not all that nuts about any one-party-rule and never have been crazy about the concept. In 2012 I split my vote voting for a Dem at the senate level and a Republican at the representative level.

I'm glad you cleared that up. Your thread title was a bit deceptive.

Anyone care to guess how much $$$ you gross to make 80k taxable?

I'm glad to see that the bill also includes subsidies for business, which brings on the question; Who Creates Jobs?

Been going on for quite some time.

They have one of the most hostile environments for business between the coasts...So bad that they have to bribe 3M every few years to keep their HQ in St. Paul...So bad that South Dakota -FRIGGIN' SOUTH DAKOTA- regularly advertises for businesses to move there...So bad that -as big a hot mess that Wisconsin is- some businesses are even relocating from Duluth to Superior.

The state is a poster boy for rampant eminent domain abuse.

It has been the go-to state for immigrants who want to get on the dole quickly and easily...Has been that way since at least the '70s.

But they just keep voting in brain dead socialist democrats like Mark Dayton.
