Incessant Calls

For the past month or so, I would say that I've not received any more calls offering to sell me Viagra or an extended warranty for my car, but I have something that might be worse.

I get a steady stream of cellphone calls from nobody. Phone rings and the phone indicates either "Unknown Name" or "Wireless Caller." That's it. If I answer the call nobody responds. Not even any background noise.

I get a dozen or more of these calls each day. I have reset the settings to ignore calls from anyone other than my Contacts.

WTF is going on? Who is doing this and why? Is there any reason why this should bother me other than simple irritation?

.

You put your phone number on an application, document or some source.

They sold it to someone in marketing, with whatever demographic info they could figure out.
Then those people sold the same stuff to a bunch of other organizations.

You. and some of your information are on a marketing call list.

Never answer. Just block them. When they call back on another number block them. My cellphone memory is loaded down just in blocked numbers.

Anyway, it is for one of two reasons---they are trying to connect you to a salesperson and none is available or they are just randomly dialing all numbers to see which numbers are current so they can either sell your number on their list or have their people call only live numbers. Both happens. I absolutely never answer a number I don't know unless I am expecting a call back from someone. Even then I let them go to voicemail first. No voice mail=you are blocked too. The only exception to my rule is that there are certain landline numbers that begin with one of 4 numbers that are so old and established locally, I know they are legit callers and not telemarketers.

I read a while back that when someone calls you and there's silence, they have one objective in mind. They want you to call back on a cell phone and they have a device to steal your minutes.

I love sales people calling. I'll talk about anything they want to sell, interspersed with me singing to them, telling absurd stories. etc. As long as they think there is still the slightest chance you will buy what they are selling, or donate to their cause, they will hang on damn near forever. Eventually, I ask them for sex. That usually ends the call.

/——/ They are fishing for active numbers. If you answer, they can sell your number to scammers.

I’d like to explain further but I need to get to Walmart and buy some gift cards before the IRS arrests me.

Sometimes I'll see a number that's called before and I'll say in a loud whisper, "It's done but there's blood everywhere. You'd better get over here right away," and hang up. They never call again. I hope the law never tries to trace me. :)

You have a hilariously sick mind. I like that.

Anyone else get the we're with Amazon and someone just made a $700 dollar purchase on your Amazon Prime?
They then tell you to push 1 for confirmation on the purchase or 2 to deny the purchase.
These dumbfucks should know that Amazon doesnt contact you by phone in these cases.
All it took was a quick look at my account and....no $700 dollar purchse.
I cant believe people fall for shit like this.
It's like when my foreman got an Email saying he won the UK lottery and they wanted all his information.
He was actually going to give it to them. I asked him, have you ever played the UK lottery?
He of course said no,I just shook my head and told him to look up UK lottery scam and walked off.

For the past few months, I'm get about 10 sales texts per day.
I never answer them and all ways block the number, but it hasn't slowed the unwanted texts down.
So annoying.....
/——-/ Mr Suniman, I’ve tried reaching you several times. My records show your car warranty has expired making you 100% liable for all repairs. Press 1 for an agent who will help you reinstate your warranty…

If there was a sales person on the line - even after a minute or so, I would understand it. But I get NOTHING. No voices, no noise, just a hangup after 30 seconds or so.
