A report released Saturday by Iran's Civil Aviation Organization blames the shootdown of a Ukrainian jetliner on a misaligned missile battery and miscommunication between troops and their commanders.

The report comes months after the Jan. 8 crash near Tehran that killed all 176 people on board. Authorities had initially denied responsibility but changed course days later after Western nations presented extensive evidence that Iran had shot down the plane.

What the hell is wrong with just accepting responsibility if you are responsible.

The horror most of these citizens had to go through, dying in such a manner, along with the agony their loved ones experience. It's heartbreaking. Many Canadians lost their lives on this plane.

Iran must offer compensation for this and speak the facts. Not doing so, costs them far more and amplifies the damage they have inflicted on so many innocent people.

I agree. It's a great tragedy.

Looks like the battery's crew is going to be the sacrificial lambs.

The real culprit is whoever decided to put their air defense system on a war footing while continuing to allow civilian air travel.

Do US airlines overfly Iran? ... I thought I read someplace that they fly around "hotspots" ... too risky ... there's international agreements that make it lawful to overfly ... but, you know, Iran ... and, well, you know, Ukraine airlines ... just saying ...
