Is America too cynical for sci fi?

The Expanse is an interesting look at the future but I wish for a return to optimistic space sci fi with cool interstellar civilizations on TV. I yearn for a return to shows like Babylon 5 and Farscape.

Give us heroic spaceship captains like Kirk, Han Solo, Commander Shepard, and Peter Quill!

It is quite sad that our only optimistic sci fi universe will be given through a video game.

The optimistic future has been exchanged

For Hi-Def Internet porn. And I'm totally OK with that.

SciFi is more of a kid thing.

I disagree. Robert Goddard built rockets because he was inspired by science fiction. The original cell phones were flip phones because engineers at Motorola were inspired by 'Star Trek'.

Science Fiction provides inspiration and insight for most engineers and scientists who create our future.

Scifi is escapism. If I want to escape then I will watch ... a fishing show. Kids watch Sci-fi.
