Given the state of incompetence and inefficiency in our current government, I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't Russian double agents working in the CIA and/or other areas of the U.S. government.
Trump isn't part of the KGB but Putin knows he is a master negotiator/deal maker, is tough, and puts America's interests first but is also a friend to those willing to behave as friends. And I'm pretty sure Putin has his finger on things enough to know those plotting Trump's assassination most likely haven't given up on that.
I think both Zelensky and Putin want out of the current conflict and are hoping Trump will provide a way they can both gracefully do that. That would be to America and the world's benefit as well.
Certainly being able to have resources now being consumed by the war would be a plus as well as re-establishing normal diplomatic relations and trading activity.Imagine the uplift to the global economy?

Zelensky is DEMANDING join NATO or it will develop Nukes.
