A boat owner raised his voice at CNN journalist Elle Reeve for noting that he could afford the expensive hobby despite economic complaints.

The confrontation came while Reeve was covering a so-called MAGA boat parade in Panama City, Florida. The interview was replayed over the weekend.

"What's your most important issue?" Reeve asked the boat owner.

"The economy, getting the interest rates down, getting it to where we can afford to live in America," the man replied. "Right now, it's too expensive."

"Okay, now, let me maybe ask a slightly impolite question, but, you know, if you can afford a boat, you're not hurting so bad, right, because a boat costs a lot of money, and it's a lot of upkeep," Reeve noted.

"Listen, nobody gave me s---!" the man shouted back. "I'm a retired military, retired power plant, and I am successful and retired, with boats, jet skis, because I did it right."

no one asked him shit about that entitlements, merely noted that pleasure boats are not necessities.

The U.S. economy ended 2023 on a positive note, most economists seem to agree. Growth is up, jobs numbers are strong, and inflation is at a three-year low.

“Overall, it's been doing really well. The GDP has been growing. We didn't have the recession that a lot of us have been anticipating,” “Unemployment has been under 4% for, I believe, 23 months in a row now. That is the new record.”

Despite those robust numbers, most Americans, 68%, say the economy is worsening, according to a December 2023 Gallup poll, which showed that four in five U.S. adults rate the country’s current economic conditions as “poor” (45%) or “fair” (33%). Only 19% of people polled said the economy is “good,” in keeping with the positive economic markers.

A January 2024 poll found that 90% of Republicans, 74% of independents, and 49% of Democrats, agree that the economy is in bad shape. The same poll found that just 31% of people approve of Biden's handling of the economy, while 56% disapprove.

However, Justin Wolfers, a professor of public policy and economics at the University of Michigan, questions the accuracy of polls and says people’s actions suggest they believe the economy is doing well.

“How would we figure out if the American consumer were in fact optimistic? I think the first thing you do is you look at consumption spending, because if you expect the economy to be terrible, you’d squirrel away money for this coming recession,”. “But instead, people have been spending money as if they believe, not only is the economy good, it’s going to continue to be good.”

It’s also possible that people’s political preferences impact how they answer questions about the economy.

“There's something internally incoherent about the polling that we're seeing where people are essentially allowing their feelings about the president to essentially govern their feelings about the economy,”

there is something internally incoherent about following a dictator because you want "freedom.,"

freedom for what? i've been on this board a year, and the only tangible "freedom" they don't (in their thousands of whining posts) have is to use the n word.

That's the thinking in most of Florida and especially the panhandle. The marina's are full of expensive boats and there are parks you can put your boat in to the water. Boats being pulled by $50,000 to $100,000 SUV's, but the economy sucks.

So rich people don't notice that their money buys less, and that the overall buying power of their accumulated wealth has been sapped?

"Let's just go rob the rich houses, they won't notice that their belongings are missing!"

The ethos of thieves is in full flower in this thread.

Its amazing how quickly their inquisitive nature goes out the door when it comes to going door to door in the neighborhoods where illegals are invading.

Keep Your Goddamn Government Hands Off My Medicare!

Senior citizens disrupting town halls are participating in a corporate lobbyist-driven campaign to prevent the rest of us from acquiring the same affordable, reliable public health care they enjoy.

People failing to grasp the contradiction in receiving Medicare benefits while simultaneously shouting nonsense about "government-run health care" is quite simply inexcusable.

President Obama at a town hall meeting last week described a letter he received from a Medicare recipient:
"I got a letter the other day from a woman. She said, 'I don't want government-run health care. I don't want socialized medicine. And don't touch my Medicare.'"

Yet they over reported the job numbers by almost a million? So the economy wasn't doing that good.

The economy is great!!!! The jobs numbers??? Unemployment almost at zero. Anyone who wants to work can find work.

DUDE, how about this very soft landing from the solution to fix inflation? It was going to DRIVE UP the unemployment number. It hasn't, and won't. How about the recession Republicans keep insisting is coming? It's not.

Unless Trump wins. Then unemployment will rise, inflation will increase and a recession will for sure come.

It was all these things happening when Trump was POTUS that made you claim he was the greatest of all time. So why isn't Biden the greater?

For example, you know that claim Trump made about being better to blacks than Lincoln? Well based on the numbers he was using to claim that, Biden is now better than Lincoln. Right?

You guys can't have it both ways

See? I'm not making this stuff up.

And, let me remind you blue collar idiots that the government (Trump) can't do everything for you. You have to do for yourselves. And some of you are.

Government just pays for things. Even if they charge ten times more for the same service or product. Our nation is top dog and slowly losing that status. We waste and waste some more. The nation can be so much richer. And this with more Americans part of it all. Instead, we play social games and use different cultures, genders, religions, sex in any way and anything else to divide us from people who love power and money. We disrespect anyone who has played y the rules and a corrupted government and banking system that has changed the rules repeatedly. The suckers who go to work are called privileged from the propagandists. With most of the propagandist never working and honest day in their lives. So universal healthcare will eventually be rationed. And all of the hate accusations will show up on who gets what is rationed.

My uncle (now deceased) was a boat owner from Panama City. I never asked him that queston. I never even thought of it.

I can't completely disagree with you. Seems like when Republicans are in charge, Republican voters are okay with what they waste money on. And I believe Democrats spend it on social programs and safety nets. Things that benefit the middle class. But no doubt neither side seems to care about the national debt and eventually that rooster is going to come home to roost.

All I care about, is the middle class. If we have a big fat healthy happy middle class like we did my entire life, I'm happy. People being able to save enough to retire, buy a home, send kids to college. Shit like that. But America today is only great for the rich and upper middle class.

I'm upper middle class. So really, I'll be fine. But I don't want 30% cuts to my social security and medicare. I want the Democrats to fill social security with rich people's money and corporate taxes. Republicans won't do that. If I want to retire at 62, healthcare will cost me about $15,000 a year till I reach 65. That's bullshit. Some things need to be socialized. Medicine is one of them. Not 100% socialized. Corporate insurance will be better than the public option but god damn.

So if I use your argument, then all non-rich should stop recreating altogether? No movies, no ballgames, no tv, no fishing, no dessert, no dating, and all that.
