The decision by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to pause shipments of cars to the USA for the next month has made people in Solihull anxious.

The plant in the West Midlands town employs around 10,000 people. Many more work in the supply chain.

On the high street, one factory worker said they had been told not to speak to journalists about the company's decision.

Another asked us not to name her but said: "Everyone's talking about it."

Referring to a move by the company earlier this year, she added: "They've already laid off agency staff, the worry is the next jobs to go will be staff jobs."

Richard Shuttelworth, an 81-year-old who worked for JLR for over 30 years, told us: "An awful lot of their trade is with America.

The guys at the country club and sports stars won't be happy.

WOW! This could really hurt US mechanics given how often JLR products are in shops for repair.
;)

No great loss IMHO.

Those who make a living selling them in the US won't be happy either.

The Stealerships make their money repairing them.....Salesmen are mercenary and will jump ship for a quarter point in commission. They are a dime a dozen.

With that condescending attitude, it's easy to understand why you like Trump.

Wait libs have told us Europe will just sell there stuff to other countries...so they can just ship the cars to China, Japan, India, Mexico...

In 2024 Jaguar sold just shy of 12,000 cars in the US. Ford sold 7700 in November alone in the UK.

In the EU and most other countries, you have to jump through hoops and pay up to a 100% VAT tax to import a US made PU.

While the "big three" have a presence in the EU it does not amount to the number of dealerships in an average state....For example there are 225 ford dealerships in Texas.....Only 136 in the EU total.

Drive in any suburb in America and you have your choice of German, Jap., Korean, Swedish cars/trucks.

There's only 2 types of cars in the world. Porsches and not Porsches....

JLR especially LandRover has a expanding market in China....

Surprised JLR did this... They were faced with 10% tariff and all things considered would probably increase their prices would be less than US made cars considering their supply chain doesn't really go into US...
