What Do Americans Really Think Of President Trump's Immigration Ban? These Numbers Don't Lie.

"According to a new poll conducted by Investor’s Business Daily and TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence, 51 percent of voters approve of the president’s decision to temporarily restrict citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the country, while 42 percent of Hispanics who were surveyed also approved."

Actually, those numbers DO lie. Here's the actual poll.

Not surprisingly, there was a sharp partisan split on this question — 82% of Democrats oppose Trump's executive order, and 88% of Republicans approve. But more than half of independents (55%) back Trump.

I found two other poll results interesting:
  • Fully 77% say they are willing to pay 5% more for products made in the U.S. instead of those made abroad.
  • Nice that they say that, but take a look at what the price differential is between some goods made in the U.S. and those made abroad, particularly goods like garments that made by unskilled laborers. It's way over 5%. What folks are willing to pay for the "Made in the USA" goods and what they'll have to pay for it are just two different things. The will one has to do "X" is irrelevant when the opportunity to act on it simply doesn't exist.
  • Shirts: "Average" Americans do not spend that kind of money on clothing. They may spring for one of them if it's on sale and marked down at an outlet or something, but they do not routinely spend $100+ each on shirts.
  • Suits -- You check the prices yourself.
  • Shoes -- I'm familiar with Rancourt, Danner, Red Wing, Alden and Allen Edmond's shoes; the "average" American shoe shopper does not typically buy any of them.
  • While 42% say ObamaCare should be repealed, 34% say the law should be expanded and 20% say it should be left as is.
  • A total of 54% of the country think O-care is good as it is or needs expanding. Isn't that the exact opposite of what Trump and the GOP want to do to it?
It's likely that one of the two polls about the travel ban is correct. Which one is? Who knows? What's clear is that the matter is hotly contested, hotly enough that two polls yield different results that are yet close to one another, even though one tips one way and another the other way. There are other polls on the matter as well:

What might one reasonably infer from the poll results and observations of the political climate as it stands right now?
  • Trump and partisans are likely to cite poll results when they favor what they are of a mind to do, but not do so when they don't. Indeed, for Trump, for any poll that disagrees with him, he brands as "fake." I'm sorry, but that sort of response just doesn't fly with anyone who's got half the sense God gave a goose, even a partisan goose.
  • Partisan politicians and citizens, including Trump, don't actually give a damn what polls, thus the electorate polled, actually want to see done.
  • Poll respondents likely do share what they truly believe; however, in some instances, they aren't well informed enough about the subject matter to have any business responding with any answer other than "I don't know" or "I'm not sure" or something indicating they know they aren't well informed on a topic.

Why don't you post the other polls that show a majority against the restriction.
Why would you ban Iranian citizens from this country, they are amongst the most pro American people you can find
