Ran across this today. It is interesting.

Nippon Steel's global strategy is at a crossroads as the Japanese steelmaker looks to establish start-to-finish local production in the target markets of the U.S., India and Southeast Asia.

Its proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel and planned construction of blast furnaces in India are crucial pieces of this grand plan to pull away from rivals like South Korea's POSCO.

The most interesting part though was this...

To pull off the much-scrutinized $14.1 billion purchase of the U.S. Steel, Nippon Steel has enlisted former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as a strategic adviser.

Mike Pompeo is helping Japan buy out US Steel. I guess it is ok for a foreign company to own it as long as it is not China.

Yes, it is ok for a foreign company to own key Western assets if they the same values. If they are an ally and not an adversary.

Many American companies can't even operate in China and you want to just give them the keys to the castle without any reciprocity.
