It was technically not a hurricane when it made landfall...however, the devastation was no less than any category 5 hurricane.

Obama was not lucky as the OP states.

Not only Superstorm Sandy damage, but as a resident of the Shore I can tell you we got a double whammy. Superstorm Sandy was followed one week later by a Nor'easter, which caused additional flooding and actually took down more trees, weakened by Superstorm Sandy, which knocked out power and disrupted business for a longer period than Superstorm Sandy.

-He entered office with a surplus left with a huge deficit
-He entered office with high approval left with the lowest approval on record
-Terrible at handling Katrina, he stayed on vacation for a full day after the hurricane hit, also played political games because Louisiana had a Democrat governor
-Bad advisers
-Faulty reasons for starting the Iraq war, and then terrible at handling the occupation of Iraq
-Supported the PATRIOT Act...which is what lead to the NSA spying
-Medicare part D was way to big business friendly, also unfunded, also left seniors unfunded if they relied on too many prescriptions
-Bush Tax Cuts, bad economic policy, too friendly to the rich, plus starting two wars and majorly lowering revenue is never a good idea. Admittedly it was bad for Obama to extend them as long as he did.

-I feel like he became president to one-up his father basically, and had little real interest in the job itself

Superstorm Sandy was followed one week later by a Nor'easter, which caused additional flooding and actually took down more trees, weakened by Superstorm Sandy, which knocked out power and disrupted business for a longer period than Superstorm Sandy.

I live at the shore and remember a snowstorm about a week after Sandy

I think the Nor'easter hit the same time as Sandy magnifying the storm surge
