They really are in a panic....Google "Paul Weiss Capitulation" and the search results are eye watering as they start swallowing the full impact.
This was a "big f-ing deal".
Paul Weiss, which employs more than 2,000 attorneys and is one of the largest law firms in the U.S., made the announcement, raising concerns about impartiality in the Trump era and the administration's treatment of corporate law firms.
Since returning to office in January, Trump has banned major firms that have worked for his perceived enemies from federal contracts.
On March 20, Paul Weiss agreed to give $40 million in free legal work to causes the president supports and end its diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
In response, Trump lifted his ban on the firm receiving federal contracts.
"Only several days ago, our firm (Paul Weiss) faced an existential crisis. The executive order could easily have destroyed our firm. It brought the full weight of the government down on our firm, our people, and our clients.
"In particular, it threatened our clients with the loss of their government contracts, and the loss of access to the government, if they continued to use the firm as their lawyers."
He added that even if Paul Weiss had mounted a legal challenge, "it would not solve the fundamental problem, which was that clients perceived our firm as being persona non grata with the Administration."
George Conway, a lawyer and vocal Trump critic, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday: "This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn't believe it at first.
"Any lawyers at that firm—partners or associates—who don't promptly resign will defile their moral and professional reputations beyond repair."
