FACT!
Median CEO Pay Crosses $10 Million
It is rare to see such a misleading headline.
It is simply far from the truth, but news outlet after news outlet is running with the absurd claim.
According to the Census Bureau, at the end of 2103, there were 400,400 CEOs in the U.S. Of those, 92% earned less than $1 million, never mind $10 million.
Only 2%, according to the CB data, earned over $3 million.
77% earned less than $500,000.

So what is with the misleading headline?

It turns out that AP is only talking about companies in the S&P 500.
That is, it is not about overall pay, but the pay of CEOs at some of the largest companies in America.

EconomicPolicyJournal.com: The Bizarre Claim That the Average CEO Makes Over $10 Million

BUT IDIOTS LIKE you and others NEVER read beyond the headline or the 30 second!

The same people who believe this BS think that the DJIA (30 Mega Corporation-Big Government Cronies) represents the health of the economy at large.

You know the problem is again our MSM first intent is "if it bleeds it leads!"

As pointed out there are far more CEOs making FAR less then what the people that are envious, jealous and basically ignorant are aware of.

Dude, the articles which said CEO median pay exceeds $10 million made it quite plain they were talking about the S&P 500. It isn't their fault you have no reading comprehension.

Here is the first paragraph from the story in the OP link in the topic about CEO pay on this forum:

Propelled by a soaring stock market, the median pay package for a CEO rose above eight figures for the first time last year. The head of a Standard & Poor’s 500 company earned a record $10.5 million, an increase of 8.8 percent from $9.6 million in 2012, according to an Associated Press/Equilar pay study.

It was right there in plain sight all along, man.

Here is the source AP story upon which all other news outlets based their stories: Median CEO pay crosses $10 million in 2013

It says the same thing:

They're the $10 million men and women.

DUDE... YOU HAVE a READING COMPRHENSION PROBLEM!
YOU WROTE THIS: The head of a Standard & Poor’s 500 company earned a record $10.5 million, an increase of 8.8 percent from $9.6 million in 2012, according to an Associated Press/Equilar pay study."

The Head means ONE guy! ONE CEO earned a record $10.5 million!..
The title of the thread is "Median CEO Pay Crosses $10 Million"

DUDE the S&P company's name also is NOT "MEDIAN" DUDE!
Median means what number is the most frequent in a list of incomes????

So DUDE... the title of the AP story was "MEDIAN CEO PAY CROSSES $10 million... BUT
DUDE you quoted that it was a single CEO of a S&P company who earned $10.5 million!
DUDE ... do you comprehend the difference??????

The headline is misleading, as the OP stated, despite the fact that it is clear from the first line of the article that they weren’t talking about all CEO’s, just those of S&P 500 companies. Still, it would be like having the headline “Median Men’s Height Crosses 7 Feet”, and finding out in the first line of the article that the population was starting centers in the NBA. It’s designed to get attention and stir the emotions of the envious.

With that said, a median S&P 500 company has a market capitalization of almost $20 billion. You can say what you want about certain CEO’s that have fallen short in one metric or another, but as an investor, I’d rather have the best person available at the head of a company that size, and $10 million (0.05% of market cap) seems a small price to pay. I feel pretty confident that all of them are more qualified in their position than the CEO of that multi-trillion dollar entity, the US government.

I did a Google search. The entire first page was the headline healthmyths said. They may have stated that in the article, but the headline is still a lie. The title should have been Median S&P 500 CEO Pay Crosses $10 Million.

Dude, you're just wrong even if they do put it in the article. The Headline is a lie.

Great point. Liberals love the headline because they get what it conveys, not because they don't

My thanks to all of you that like me have come to understand "if it bleeds it leads" is what is most important!

Remember when liberals claimed "conservatives want to push granny over the cliff"??
In Attack Ad, Paul Ryan Kills Grandma In Wheelchair - Forbes

When we conservatives need to do is LEARN to write in hyperbolic phrases, like "All liberals/progressives favor eugenics "
and then give the context of that headline..

the Planned Parenthood "to create a race of thoroughbreds" Slogan of Margaret Sanger - Founder of Planned Parenthood
The banner-head above summarizes the philosophy of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood.
Like Adolf Hitler, Margaret Sanger considered herself to be part of a genetically superior elite who had to protect themselves against "hereditary taints."
She set out to start a "New Race" - "A Race of Thoroughbreds."
In 1921, Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which was renamed "Planned Parenthood" in 1942.
In 1952 she helped found the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), serving as its first president until 1959.
Even today, Planned Parenthood proudly proclaims Margaret Sanger as its "visionary" founder.
'The Nuremberg Files' Abortion Birth Control Margaret Sanger Founder Planned Parenthood Lancaster PA Pa Abortion Clinic Birth Control Holocaust Murder Nazi German Dictator Adolf Hitler German Eugenics Murder Nazi Germany

"At a March 1925 international birth control gathering in New York City, a speaker warned of the menace posed by the "black" and "yellow" peril. The man was not a Nazi or Klansman; he was Dr. S. Adolphus Knopf, a member of Margaret Sanger's American Birth Control League (ABCL), which along with other groups eventually became known as Planned Parenthood.

After the horrors of the Holocaust were widely publicized in the late 1940s, eugenics in America (and any progressive support of the idea) quickly faded into the past. Nonetheless, it's an important piece of American history that should not be forgotten.
