Politicians should support gambling as it has been around for thousands of years and is also a part of and a result of capitalism.

Should casinos with oversight be legalized across the United States?

  • Yes as our capitalist society Is built upon risk taking. Risk is Higher outside of casinos

  • No …and we must outlaw capitalism in general. Perhaps make communism legal.

  • No …but I Recognize that American Society is built on risk…I just don’t like casinos

Before responding please follow the line of reasoning here and if you still disagree, respond exactly to the following reasoning.

There are numerous reasons as to why folks are against gambling. They say it is immoral. They say that it is just another vice so it should be not be allowed even though there are other vices that are perhaps allowed in parts of America. Or all parts of America like drinking alcohol.

The big point is that gambling is a result and a part of capitalism. Now we could separate the categories of gambling like the game of poker, for example, is a skill game and almost entirely different from slot machines or roulette. But we can also include all elements of gambling like sports betting, slot, machines, and roulette. These types of games should be legalized throughout the country.

The arguments against legalizing casinos across America are very flawed. This is simply because in every aspect of the country you have risk taking. And you have a much higher degree of risk associated with opening up a restaurant as upwards of half of all new restaurants fail within one year.

What is behind that massive number.? Well often when somebody opens up a restaurant, they invest much of their own savings if not all of their savings into the restaurant. Sometimes they even ask family members or friends to invest, and so their family members and friends invest. People go bankrupt opening up a restaurant. It has a butterfly effect because people who were working in the restaurant lose their job when inevitably many restaurants will fail.

It’s not just the restaurant industry. It is
capitalism in general. America is built on competition. Restaurants and businesses in numerous categories are competing with each other where ultimately inevitably many restaurants and businesses will fail.

And lets not even forget the stock market investing. That it of itself is a risk. Many many more billions of dollars are lost in the restaurant and business and investing industry compared to the gambling industry.

For those who say “too long didn’t read.” It’s very simple. America is built on risk. And you are taking a much much greater risk by opening up a restaurant or investing in the stock market. In fact, there are billions of more dollars that are invested into restaurants or the stock market. Compared to people who go into a casino. Most people who walk into a casino spend $20 or some sort of a low budget relative to their net worth…. and if they lose then they walk out that’s it. Around 1 to 2% of people who walk into a casino become addicted or become problem gamblers.

Compare that to 60% of restaurants that fail within one year and 80% of restaurants that fail within five years according to CNBC.

This is what "derivatives" are. This is how gambling suddenly became something that could be insured. This is scandalous and should be seriously taxed.

They do, it's called "the stock market"

It’s totally fine to be against legalization of casinos. But by those reasonings the same person who is against legalizing casinos has to be against capitalism in general…in other words, no private business owners no private restaurant owners because those fields see astronomically higher failure rates… and astronomically more amount of money lost in those fields compared to individuals who gamble during their own spare time.

“Oh but gambling ruins families”

Yes for the 1 to 2% of people who gamble and become problem gamblers this can certainly be true. But again, if somebody uses this line of reasoning to want to outlaw casinos. Then by that same reasoning they have to be against capitalism and therefore for communism. Communism is really the only type of society I can think of where risktaking is outlawed. Even in Israel where there is Jewish law systems or much of the Muslim world where there is Islamic law systems …there is still capitalistic competition in these countries where businesses and restaurants open and many fail within the first year.

In a communist society You can’t have your own private restaurant you can’t have your own casino, you can’t have your own private business. Everybody makes the same amount money. Everybody lives in the same type of house. Nobody owns anything

I tell you what I don’t want communism . I want capitalism. I want freedom. If people have a right to invest their life-saving into a restaurant and 60% of them will get wiped out in the first year. Well, they have a right to open up a casino with government regulation and oversight.

90 % and more of people are Stupid and Gullible .
Charitable view .

That in itself answers your topic question .

The subject then gets worse -- as we already know -- when you examine gambling consequences .
Addiction plus mental deterioration and personlity changes etc etc being the worst ones .

I do not even accept the argument that individuals should retain the right of Choice .
That is only "right" if they can prove they are not Stupid and / or Gullible in the first place .

imho .

Needless to say I am a gambler and do it in several areas of my life -- but very successfully .
However , there are 95/99 other failures for every one significant and consistent success .

The movements against "vices" have always included women as leaders. The reason they wanted ordinances and statutes is because it was the only way to control their men. They could not stop their gambling husbands from literally losing the farm, so they took desperate measures.

The same goes for drink and hoes. Women were at the fore of prohibition. Women are always at the fore when attempting to stop legal prostitution.

And my question still remains. Why is hooking illegal, but porn film is legal? Both are sex for pay.

There is a totally unjustifiable amount of the economy tied up in derivatives. It has a tremendous cost to society and is entirely speculative/gambling. That should be dealt with.

I appreciate the response, but I feel safe with my view …. because of the fact that the failure rate is astronomically higher outside of casinos. In other words in the restaurant and business Arena.

Everything you talk about wrt problem gambling, which would include mental depression effects 1 to 2% of all gamblers…. And some of the 1 to 2% don’t ever go broke. They’re just gambling too much so they’re considered part of the category of “problem gambler.”

There is much more to this issue than right of choice.

That’s a great point right there. And arguably the porn industry is more damaging because the actress/actor is seen in public by millions of millions of people. Where as a prostitute is much less known in the public eye.

There is a vast difference between "gambling" and the risk of market capitalism. Apples and oranges. When you gamble in a casino, the odds always favour the house, so you're betting against the odds. And while gambling does involve some skills, there is no "exchange of value" in gambling.

When you open a business, you're exchanging your goods for money. Giving value for the exchange. The risk is that you've misread the market and nobody wants your goods. Not the same thing as "gambling" at all.
