Free speech has consequences. Making up stuff about people is not protected. You are one dumb fucker.

It does have consequences, never said otherwise, yet we need to protect free speech, just like your freedom to call people names when you have no legitimate argument.

The argument is so obvious that it shouldnt have to be made.

Somebody takes film of Pelosi and edits it to distort its meaning in order to make her look bad. She complains. That complaint is a legitimate defence of her good name.

Some right wing authoritarian complains that social media companies have actual film of refugees crossing the channel and tells them to remove it. The reason being that she doesnt like it. That is not a legitimate use of government power and is an abuse of free speech.

As you can see you are comparing apples and pears.

We are talking about government officials injecting their wishes to suppress free speech. They can say what they want, no one needs to validate their stupidity. I may not like what they say, I’ll defend the right to say it.
