Prosecutors have had it with the alleged Jan. 6 rioter who put his feet on Nancy Pelosi's desk

Richard Barnett, the Jan. 6 Capitol rioter who was photographed with his feet on the desk of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and subsequently threw a hissy fit in court upon his arrest, seems to be really testing the patience of federal prosecutors.

Barnett, 65, was granted a pretrial release in April and allowed to return to his Arkansas home where he allegedly threw a birthday party and had the police called on him twice. On Thursday, the United States Attorney's Office submitted a scathing six-page motion announcing opposition to Barnett's request to travel 215 miles for a car show.

"The defendant has not demonstrated a need for his travel and, as detailed below, his conduct thus far on pretrial release indicates his conditions should be increased, not decreased," prosecutors wrote.

According to prosecutors, law enforcement was called to Barnett's home twice for "unverified reasons," and a police report was taken in a nearby county after Barnett allegedly "harassed" a man "in connection with a business dispute." He also allegedly capitalized on an error in the Pretrial Services office and received permission to travel more than 50 miles away from home for another car show — which violated the terms of his pretrial conditions. Prosecutors say only the court can grant permission for these requests.

Furthermore, prosecutors highlighted Barnett's recent appearance on Russian state television in which he proclaimed it was within his First Amendment rights to carry a stun gun into the Capitol building.
