Pumped storage on the Columbia

Nearly the whole length of the Columbia has high ground near it. Putting a series of these along the Columbia would eliminate the need for gas peaker plants.

not sure how you can be an environmentalist and support these abominations scattered across the landscape,, more so when you consider the amount of birds they kill,,

LOL OK, time to outlaw automobiles, high power lines, buildings, cats, ect. all of which kill far more birds than do windmills;

I'm good with that,,

Wow, 12 hours of backup. A waste of money in a country with all our NG and coal (China is building 125,000+ megawatts of coal-fired power plants).

Yes, 12 hours of backup. For just one unit. The Columbia is a long river and has highlands close by nearly the whole length of it. And the conservation is about peaker power.

A waste of money in a nation with vast NG and coal resources.

At this time, natural gas and coal are a waste of money. Both will increase in price while solar and wind will continue to decrease, even with the cost of grid scale storage. They have learned that lesson in Australia.

You cannot run a grid off of solar and/or wind. Germany has realized this.

NG and coal, plus nuclear operate around the clock.

Is that why Germans pay 3 times what we pay? Because solar is so cheap?

They have learned that lesson in Australia.

You should never make a claim that is so easy to check...

According to energy. Gov.au... official Australian Dept of Engery page.

Renewable energy is up less than 4% in the last 10 years.

The lesson they have learned in Australia is how renewables and storage can decrease the cost of electricity and stabilize the grid. And that storage does not have to be batteries. It can be liquid air, pumped hydro, gravity, ect.

So, you find it necessary to tell bald faced lies. Share of renewable power by Australian state. Tasmania 99.2%, South Australia 59.2%, Victoria 27.7%, Western Australia 24.2%, New South Wales 21%, Queensland 16.6.

Looks like a very much larger increase in the last ten years than 4%.
