This past weekend I saw Senator James Lankford on one of the major cable news channels, now Republican Senator Lankford is supposed to be one of the Republican Senators finest Senators he is a lawyer, conservative but not an extremists. The interview was mostly about the border and immigration problem this is Senator Lankford's issue during the last Congress then minority leader Senator Mitch McConnell chose Senator Lankford to lead the bipartisan negotiations on a border bill and he negotiated a great one that was torpedoed by the Republican conference because then presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump wanted to use the illegal immigration issue as a wedge issue in the election, the bipartisan bill was so good that Senator McConnell who as a leader was a Lebron James at getting bills through the Senate once said about the bill if Republicans held both chambers of Congress they would be lucky to get such a bill through both chambers. This past weekend's interview by Senator Lankford was disgraceful he completely adopted the untruthful sellout of America Republican party line that everything President Trump is doing in this area is right that America never needed to change the law in this area that the laws on the books were good enough for a President to solve the immigration problem and Senator Lankford said we only need to close the loopholes in our nation's immigration law so that an errant President cannot create an illegal immigration problem.
It is a tragedy that a stellar Senator like Senator Lankford would sell out the rule of law if a member of Congress doesn't hold the rule of law as supreme they fail America and they have failed to keep the duty of their oath in office; America is doomed if we stop hold the rule of law as inviolate because otherwise we will be a country that politics rules as supreme and if that is the case those out of power will be oppressed and the good that the law protects if it is politically incorrect will be sacrificed. President Trump has largely shut off the spigot of illegal immigration because he has shut down the asylum system in America, the rule of law in America provides as opportunity for foreigners if their circumstances allow it to file a claim for asylum in America and President Trump has denied eligible foreigners that right. Senator Lankford if he wasn't acting like a coward that is putting political power (his and his party's) over principle would stand up and say that the Trump administration is wrong for shuttering the asylum system that the current law isn't sufficient to solve the problem that thru law America needs to fix the broken asylum system and Trump should commence bipartisan negotiations on the issue. Senator Lankford should further stand up for the rule of law and say that the Trump administration should stop deporting non-El Salvador citizens to El-Salvador whether or not they are sent to Cecot prison because the American government has no right to turn a person over to another sovereign jurisdiction that is not that person's home country sovereign jurisdiction for an illegal immigration transgression. Further, Senator Lankford should stand up and say that the Trump administration should respect and obey immigration judges' decisions; this transferring of the El Salvador national Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the harsh Cecot prison in El Salvador was unlawful! Mr. Abrego Garcia had a Judge's order that he was not to be sent back to El Salvador because of concerns for his safety and that should have protected him from him being transferred to El Salvador authorities; where is the Trump administration's patriotism not only the court order but the man is married to an American women with whom he has an American child who is disabled don't they care about their neighbor? Senator Lankford should have been calling for the Trump Administration to make a formal request in writing to the El Salvador government to return Mr. Abrego Garcia to the American government's custody and comply with the Court's order to facilitate the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia!
Another disconcerting occurrence that occurred this past weekend is Speaker Mike Johnson talking about Republicans plans on Medicaid and his statements that we are going to get able bodied men out of the program. Where is the commitment to the good this leader is a lawyer he should have respect for the law which established that the Medicaid program is a health care program for the poor meaning in part there is an abundance of people in the program that work that hold jobs, that stock our grocery stores that wring us up when we go to the pharmacy and basic jobs like that who don't make enough money to pay for their own health care which is very expensive in America. Again Medicaid is income determinant, Republicans shouldn't be throwing able bodied men out of the program, if Speaker Johnson is talking about a work requirement for able bodied men to be able to get Medicaid coverage that is fair but say a work requirement will be required like good politicians have said for decades, stop with the confusion and fear!
