A firearm is just another tool of preparedness. And as with any dangerous tool, such as a chainsaw or a machete, proper care must be taken for safety of yourself and others.

But we don't require people to be "correctly checked" to own those things...or propane cylinders or hammers or bulldozers for that matter.
