You've seen it before, you've experienced the emotions. Even some of the extreme left or right on here who love government Overlords, this movie impacted you surely.

My favourite scene was Morgan Freemans final moment in front of the parole board. He is old, tired, his life gone, not even able to recognize why he is even in there as so much time and change has passed.

The evil warden deserved worse for all he had done.

Has to be Stephen Kings best,, though I believe it was from a much shorter story if I recall correctly. There are so many messages in the movie, sometimes conflicted but they resonate.

What I didn't understand is why they kept Tim Robbins in the same institution and the same cell long enough to tunnel his way out. DIdn't make sense, particularly as he had time in the hole. Usually, don't most inmates end up in another unit when they return from solitary.

A nuanced assessment I suppose. He did what he had to. A genius in his maticulous planning, he exploited the false idolatry of the warden who was anything but holy.as he worshipped.greed, power and evil.

When Red found the box Andy burried for him & decided to go look for him. Andy had given red a reason to live...raher than end up like brooks.

Get busy livin'...or get busy dyin'...YOU'RE DAMNED RIGHT!
Yea,.Brooks just grew tired of it all, the poor man couldn't cope anymore, his life also gone. I am tired too some days, not that tired but tired nonetheless.

I've watched it a couple of times in the past, only because of Morgan Freeman.

Although Mr. Freeman does no wrong, the movie was MEH.
