Its "Daylight Saving Time"

No one likes changing clocks, but it is a very good thing.

1. The extra daylight means more golf and other sports
2. It is safer for kids going to school with daylight rather than in the dark

PA tried to join AZ and HI by not changing the clocks, but the complaints kept us on DST.

No, we should not keep DST. We should keep Standard Time. That means here, the sun would set in the summer at 8:15 rather than 9:30 as in some parts of the state. If we keep DST year round, school kids will be going to school in the dark for months and months and months

I'm in MI, at the far end of the EST. Our elementary kids start school at 8:45, a perfectly normal time. They can be in the building at 8:30.

As it is, on standard time, they already go to school mostly in the dark, as our latest sunrise is just after 8 AM. DST year round that sunrise time would be moved to later than 9 AM. Unthinkable to be honest.

Looks like y'all will get to vote on ending DST in 2026.

I didn't know this and looked it up (I don't really follow local news). It SOUNDS like they would keep Standard Time all year, which would be best. I would definitely vote for that, but not to keeping DST. Where our daughter lives, on the west side of the state, the sun doesn't go down until 9:30 in June/July! We need to be in the CST to be honest.

I just lost an hour, I’m tired. But I don’t care either way about whether it’s kept or not.

Write your state reps and make that suggestion, (to go to CST), take Indiana with you.

I propose a compromise. Shift the clocks back one-half hour in the fall and keep it there. Of course we would all be off from the UTC by 30 minutes, but who cares! That mostly only effects air travel to and from Europe.

its still dark at 7?.....

If you mean 7 AM, it is dark past 8 AM already on Standard Time in Dec and Jan. If we kept DST all year round, it would not be sunrise until after 9 AM....so late in the day.

are you in the upper peninsula?...

I personally don't care which one, but for the love of god, why can't we choose one and stick with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I like the twice a year change that I already addressed in the multiple other threads every six months.

You can actually set your clocks every six months by when people bitch about it.

Yes. Keep it.

Kids getting on buses in the dark is a safety issue. One of the main reasons I see for it.

When I was a youngster in the 50s in Florida there was no DST. My mother told me it was something they did "up north".

Eventually it was introduced, but only 4 months out of 12. At some point the feds took over and it was bumped to 6 months out of 12, then eventually to 8 out of 12.

4 months or 6 is reasonable, but 8 is not. Those who pay the heaviest price are the children whose best sleep is interrupted when they need it most. At least RFK is talking about changing school hours. That would be very good. The culprit is DST

Stop fucking with my golf time
