And, where's Politician on the list?

That article oversimplifies things a bit with the recommendation to go study math.

Some people just aren't math/science types, you could throw them into a math, computer science, or engineering program at a university and they aren't going to succeed. Even if they did manage to grind it out with lots of extra effect and tutoring they won't excel in the field after they graduate. Might as well recommend to those mathematicians there is even better money in professional baseball.

What, exactly, is a mathemetician, and whom would he work for? I have no clue.

Dental hygienists make $70K? Wowzer.

Firefighters and corrections officers typically make gobs of overtime, doing basically nothing. Their earnings are a lot more than their base incomes.

And what's this with "Midlevel income"? Is that a different way of saying "median"?

Some are academic but the skill itself is valued for its application (analysis problem solving etc.) in everywhere from financial modeling to operations research, statistics, and even biotech and energy. Many who studied math have another label, but it is based in math.

I majored in applied mathematics but have had a career as a software engineer, I wouldn't call myself a mathematician. My first job used a ton of math it was for a defense contractor, related to efficiently targeting strategic weapon systems. But the majority of it since has just been general software dev stuff, hardly any math used. Would say waste of math classes but CS majors took most of the applied stuff anyway.
