Just watched this on youtube. Its an excellent study of upper middle class life and all its horrors.
Crock is retiting thru ill health. He has taught at the school for years but is not popular. They deny him a pension and his harridan wife is cheating on him with a younger man.

Its achingly sad at times. Really a was any of it worth it film with cut glass accents,

Rattigan writes a decent play and if you liked the Winslow Boy you will enjoy this.

While not my kind of movie it is far from being a piece of garbage. It was very popular in Britain winning many awards. Michael Redgrave delivered a wonderful performance and the movie got good reviews. The movie is a moving story of a schoolmaster's disappointments as his life slips away from him. This movie is one of those human condition productions made in mid 20th century. There were quite a few of these, best known is probably "Whose Afraid of Virginian Woolf".

I believe the movie got a limited release in US, playing mostly art house cinemas. That is where I saw the film in late 50's or early 60's.

Goodbye Mr Chips is another ;pst opportunity film. Thats about a school master as well.
Colenel Blimp is a reflective piece as well. Made by Powell and Pressburger. Possibly the best film makers in the UK.
