Kids shooting up schools, kids murdering their parents. Kids walking around like zombies. Drugged up kids being programmed to vote democrat from the 2nd grade on...the sudden surge in ADHD diagnosis in 1990s...
And now these Ridalin kids are grown up. And incapable of taking care of themselves or their families without government assistance.
Our country is sliding into a cesspool of socialist sewage in part because we are drugging our kids for a "disease" that doesn't exist.

I grew up just at the start of the ADHD “craze” and knew quite a few kids who were diagnosed with it. When I look back now, I probably saw every the full swath of parental responses; from denial of the situation by the parents to demands that the child be put in full time SPED (special education) classes.

Of my fellow students and friends who were diagnosed with ADHD, the ones who have been most successful in life are the ones whose parents refused to allow the child to use the diagnosis as a crutch and still set above average expectations (with reasonable assistance) for their children. The parents who allowed the diagnosis to be used as an excuse or reason for failure raised kids who have failed in life.

Seems to me that there is at least correlation, and possibly a fair bit of causation there.

I have a similar opinion as you on the ADHD issue, but am open to scientific research on its operational diagnostic validity and treatment effectiveness.

You are setting up a straw man argument, because there is a third option, which is to medicate with Ritalin AND encouraging your child to do well in school. You seemed to imply that that option is not available.

Oh shit I didn't read the article either but I know several adults who took ritalin as a kid and one still does at age 45 and he is a full bird colonel in the Army and the other's are very successful in their respective fields of employment.

Please see the phrase “(with reasonable assistance)” in my prior post. Unfortunately, at least in that day and age, many parents assumed that chemical assistance (Ritalin and other drugs) were a replacement for actual parental responsibility.

Those who used drugs as PART of a system of parental oversight and communication with school administration generally did well. Those who expected the drugs to be a cure-all failed more often than not.

I've been trying to warn people about Ritalin since the 80's and nobody listens.
American is sleepwalking....it's that simple.
