Actually the only true guard bad guys are the warden and the head guard. The rest are just people doing their jobs.

And The "sisters" weren't portrayed in a good light.

Which is funny, the only bad prisoners were the gay ones.

The prisoners were sympathetic because the ones we knew the most about were either innocent or knew they were criminals and had long accepted their fate being incarcerated.

I can't imagine it without him.
As long as a person can suspend reality pretty seriously, it is a good movie.
The character I always like best was actually the old man.

It suffered at the box office and failed to win any Oscars, but the 1994 prison drama is still seen by many as greater than The Godfather

Not in the top 100 films ever as voted for by Film Directors and unlikely to figure in the Top 500 imho .
Sure it was entertaining but so is chicken and chips .

Well in fairness the end was in the middle because the movie was non-linear. I thought that made it better.
