The song you would play for someone of any random musical tastes and believe they would like it?

Down Under from my childhood. Was catchy the first time I heard it, upbeat, fun and memorable, it's catchy 40 years later One of those songs I believe anyone would like and it's become an Australian anthem.

As an aside because I'm interested in geo-political influence. One of the great assets the West has (had?) is (was?) music. I find so much of it corporate and sterile now, so this is why I say "had". It's one of the biggest deficits socialist nations lack, creativity in art, movies and music.

This is mine, any other suggestions?

I'm honestly not sure what the question is...

If you didn't know the musical genre preference of a person, what song would you play that you would be sure they would like if you had to wager?

Many millennials on youtube are exploring music of yesteryear because their generation of music is often lacking soul and creativity. It's great to see a generation listening to older bands and saying "this is far better than music today".

I know when I listened to music before my time, from the 60's and 70s I was impressed with the energy and creativity. The gap wasn't nearly as broad between those periods and the 80s, but it was different (as 80s because synthasized and far more mainstream due to MTV. Much of it was good though).

The album Mystic Moods. It was released in 1971.

You chose a song that certainly transcends any particular labeling. Sort of like Down Under really, it's not rock, nor reggae, it's just it's own I suppose.

They actually describe it as a country/western murder ballad meets gangster rap. Frankly I don't think it would be that good without the video.

If I was going to go for something everyone would like though that was more serious... I would go with Disturbed... Sound of Silence. An old song... Redone better.

AC/DC only plays one way, but they do it consistently well. Even Angus Young made jokes about it, they accepted their pigeon-holed status.

They know what works and what their fans like they don't do anything fancy it's just a drummer, bass guitar, rhythm guitar. lead guiatr and lead vocals doing hard driving kick ass rock and roll.

I remember the first time I heard this and being impressed with his vocals. He took a toned down song and brought theatre to it, the words sound more ominous and desperate.
