Trump's first travel ban way back when seemed to be designed to stop terrorism. Everyone's heard of what happened on 9/11 when one Egyptian, one Lebanese, two UAE citizens (what's their adjective?) and 15 Saudis attacked the US with planes in one of the worst terrorist attacks on the US (probably the worst).

So, in the first travel ban Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen were on the list.

None of these countries had participants on 9/11.

In fact none of these countries ended up on the second, third or fourth versions of the travel ban

Now, Trump's got ANOTHER travel ban.

Guess which countries aren't on it?

Yep, Egypt, Lebanon, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

But it's got BHUTAN on the list. Yes, the threat from terrorism to the US from Bhutan is HUGE, but from Saudi Arabia it's none existent.

Does anybody understand this nonsense?

So….a bunch of Muslim shit hole countries that we don’t need to be taking anyone in from.

This is what we voted for.

What’s the problem?

Biden told us "I DON'T HAVE THE POWER TO FIX THE BORDER"!!Trump fixed it in 2 weeks.

What’s the problem?

So, you think Trump is keeping the US safe by blocking countries who have done nothing, and by letting in people from those countries represented on 9/11?

Bhutan is a beautiful, peaceful country that is in severe danger: it sits on a huge vault line that when it lets loose, will devastate the country. But they are also just south of China and I suppose a potential source for god knows what from the Chinese.

Is it painful to be so wrong so often? Here's the countries the 9/11 hijackers were from:

The aircraft hijackers in the September 11 attacks were 19 men affiliated with jihadist organization al-Qaeda. They hailed from four countries; 15 of them were citizens of Saudi Arabia, two were from the United Arab Emirates, one was from Egypt, and one from Lebanon.

Care to try again, without the lies?

Huh?

What I literally write in the OP with some color added to make it easy for you.

What’s wrong with travel bans?

Well, what's the point?

Trump CLAIMS he's protecting the US from terrorism. Which countries have been the biggest threat in the last 30 years? Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Lebanon.

They're not on the list. Bhutan is. Is Bhutan a threat to the US?

You think they’re mean?

You also said:
but from Saudi Arabia it's none existent.
If you were going for sarcasm it didn't translate well.

BTW, the link also said the proposed list was not finalized.

Not my fault you can't figure that the terrorist threat from Bhutan is not huge.

But I guess that's all you've got to say on this topic. Wouldn't want to make the orange freakoid look bad, would we?

Again, what’s wrong with travel bans?
You think they’re mean?

I guess there's a reason you're on my ignore list. I do try and respond to all sensible posts when I make a thread, yours isn't, bye.

Being a gem stone collector from around the world, I thought I was fairly well versed in geography and I can honestly say I've never heard of Bhutan. But if the State dept keeps them on the list, a reason should be forthcoming. There are reasons other than terrorism to prevent people from entering the county.

Well, wouldn't you say there'd be a VERY GOOD REASON to put Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Lebanon and Egypt on this list?

Apparently the reason why Bhutan is being put on the list is because it's difficult to verify who these people are.

"The new travel ban, which has not yet been signed off, is the result of Donald Trump’s executive order in January that required the State Department to identify countries “for which vetting and screening information is so deficient as to warrant a partial or full suspension on the admission of nationals from those countries”."

So, a lack of vetting information.

But how many Bhutan citizens have flown planes into buildings?

So I looked for the number of Bhutan citizens in federal prisons, there isn't any information

This website suggests 122 Bhutan citizens are awaiting deportation. One of the lowest, not the lowest, Madagascar has 5, for example.

"ICE Cincinnati arrests Bhutanese national with sex crime conviction"

Yes, they found a bad one here

Five here.

None of them seemed to be terrorists.

So they can't be vetted and the country has a history of visa overstays. I'd say that's a pretty good reason. Bhutan has a population of 795,194, but they have one community in Columbus OH with 27,000 members and other significant Bhutanese communities can be found in Texas, New York, Indiana, North Carolina, and Georgia. Sounds like we have almost as many Bhutanese as Bhutan.

Every country has a history of visa overstays.

And how do they vet people? 9/11 happened? Were the terrorists vetted?

Well, seems like there are lots of Bhutanese in the US and you've never heard of it. I'd say that says a lot.

You've heard of Saudi Arabia, I take it.

I appreciate that you are paying attention to things. Too many dumb fucks in this country do not pay enough attention (I'm assuming you are from 'this country', but same applies to the whole world). But I gave you a thumbs down. Why?

You attempt a valid thesis, but you missed a big issue: Terrorist organizations recruit people from wherever they can find them. Every country. These terrorist organizations are genuinely organized, and they have propaganda and recruiters.

They are not necessarily from any particular religion or country, although many are from the extreme Muslim branches.

The nationality of the perpetrators is not as important as where the terrorist organizations have headquarters. The only country on your suspicious list that raises my eyebrow is Lebanon. The others have good diplomatic relationships with the USA, and most likely would want to work with US to stop such violent criminals.

So, in short, that many of the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks are from countries not on the travel ban list is not surprising. Those countries have some free speech, and unfortunately, some of their citizens were sucked into the propaganda of the terrorist organizations.
